Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 17, 1911.
Original application filed .Tune 14, 1909, Serial No. 501,940. Divided and this application filed April 21, 1910. Serial No. 556,758.
T o all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY G. RAZALL, a States, and resident of citizen of the United Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Separable do hereby declare that the Binders; and I following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention herein particularly set to the accompanying out in claim of this specification was originally disclosed in my patent Serial No. 501,940,
forth with reference drawings and pointed application for tiled June 14, 1909, of which this application is a division, and its object is to provide simple, economical separable binders for loose leaves or stubs of same and to prevent separation of clamping-screws from a member of the binder.
Figure l of the drawings represents a transverse section view of one of my improved separable binders; Fig. 2, a plan view of a fragment of the binder partly broken; Fig. 3, a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of said binder on the plane indicated by line 3 3 in F ig. 2, and Fig. l, a sectional View on the plane indicated by line 4 4 in Fig. l.
Referring by numeral to the drawings, 5, 6, indicate a pair of parallel binder-strips each of which may be the stub portion of a flexible joint book-cover as-is shown in my application for patent above noted, such covers being common in the art. The strip 5 is preferably provided with a back-flange 5 that laps the adjacent edge of the strip 6, and in rigid connection with said strip 6 are hollow preferably angular posts, one 7 of the same being herein shown. Each post is interiorly screw-threaded and socket with which to engage a clampingscrew 8 extending into a guide-box 9 that bushes an aperture provided in the strip 5, and engages said post, the screw being independent of said box. To prevent the screw aforesaid from being detached from the strip 5, it is provided with an upper annular groove 10 engaged by a notched plate 1l made fast to said strip by rivets l2 or other suitable means, the notch in the plate afording clearance for the engagement of said plate with the groove of the screw.
F rom the foregoing it will be understood that the screw 8 may be readily run into the post 7 or out of same but that its connection with the binder strip 5 is such that it cannot be detached from same without removal of the plate 11 by which it is straddled, whereby its loss or displacement when out of said post is avoided.
I claim:
The combination of a pair of binder-strips, an interiorly screw-threaded post in rigid connection with one of the strips, a post-en gaging guide-box that bushes an aperture with which the other of said strips is provided, an annularly grooved clamping-screw that extends within the guide-box independent of the same and engages said post, and a notched plate fastened to the latter of said binder-strips in engagement with the groove of the screw, the notch in the plate affording clearance for the engagement of said plate with said screw.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee in the county of Milwaukee and State of vWisconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY G. RAZALL. vWitnesses MAY DowNEY, N. E. OLIPHANT.
