To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY F. BUSHONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leaves or Sheets for Temporary or Loose-Leaf Binders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in leaves or sheets for temporary or loose-leaf binders.

My improved leaf or sheet is particularly adapted for use in temporary or loose-leaf binders which retain the leaves or sheets by clamping a portion thereof-for example, such as is illustrated and described in my application for Letters Patent filed August 5, 1904, Serial No. 219,62t.

The main object of this invention is to provide an improved leaf or sheet adapted for use in temporary or loose-leaf binders which may be easily and securely retained in position.

Further objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detaileddescription to follow. 7

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accom: panying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a detail edge elevation view of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of my improved leaf or sheet B.

In the drawings, similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout both views.

Referring to the lettered parts of the drawings, A A are covers, and A A the clampingbars, of a temporary or loose-sheet binder. The binder illustrated is of the structure illustrated and described in my application for Letters Patent hereinbefore mentioned, and while my improved leaf or sheet is particularly adapted for use in such a binder it is very desirable for use in other binders which retain the leaves by clamping a portion thereof, as before stated.

My improved sheet or leaf B is provided with an lndented or roughened portion B, adapted to be clamped between the clamping-bars A of the binder. This indented or roughened portion B is preferably formed by passing the same through a pair of toothed rollers, forming indentations in both sides thereof. When thus roughened and the bars A are clamped upon the same, it is practically im ossible to withdraw a leaf without materia ly loosening the clamped bars. The indented portions of the leaves nest together, so that they are held in perfect alinement with each other. When the indented portions of the leaves are clamped, it tends to bring them into alinement. This avoids the necessity of great care in inserting them into the binder, so that it results in a considerable saving in time. The indented ortions Bof the leaves are preferably provi ed with keyhole-slots adapted to engage the clamping means of the blnder.

My improved leaf or sheet is very economical to produce and convenient to use. The same is securely held without clamping as firmly asis otherwise necessary in order to retain the leaves in the binder in alinement.

This relieves the binder of considerable strain and avoids the necessity of so great care in adjusting the same, which of course is a great advantage in structures such as loose-leaf ledgers and the like where the leaves are being frequently changed, which necessitates the frequent manipulation of the binder.

I have illustrated my improved leaf with the portion B indented or roughened by passing through toothed rollers, as stated, thus forming a plurality of indentations and projections. The projections are so shaped as to nest in the indentations of the adjacent sheet. I am, however, aware that practical results can be secured by otherwise forming these projections and indentations.

I desire to claim the sheets with the clamping extension B indented in any suitable manner, so that the indentations and projections of adjacent sheets may nest into each other.
