Description
(ModeL) J. N. JEFFERSON. PORTABLE .WORK CASE.
No. 405.888. Patented June 25, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES NEIV'ION JEFFERSON, OF MOUNDSVILLE, VEST VIRGINIA.
PORTABLE WORK-GAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,888, dated June 25, 1889.
Application filed April 8, 1889.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES NEWTON J EF- FERSON, of Moundsville, in the county of Marshall and State of West Virginia, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Portable ork-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in portable work-cases; and it consists in the combination of the body, which is to be suspended around the neck, a plate which is attached thereto in any suitable manner and provided with bent wires upon which the spools of thread are to be placed, and which plate is provided with a thread-cutter at one end and a hook at the other, upon which the scissors are to be hung, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to provide a device which is to be used by ladies, and which is provided with means for holding spools, a pin-cushion, and a pocket, so as to enable a lady to carry sewing articles with her and have them always handy and convenient.
The accompanying drawing represents a perspective of a work-case which embodies my invention.
A represents the frame or body, which is formed from a piece of textile fabric of any desired quality, and which is suspended around the neck by means of the ringsB and a band C, which is provided with a snap-hook D at one end. The snap-hook enables the case to be quickly adjusted in and removed from position upon the ladys body. To the body A, which will be of any desired size,
Serial No. 306,410. (ModeL) shape, and finish preferred, is fastened the plate E, which has its ends turned outward, so as to form the two hooks G H. The edge of the one G is sharpened, so as to form a thread-cutter, while upon the other the scissors are to be hung. Projecting outwardly from this plate are a number of bent wires I, upon which spools of thread are to be placed. Just below the lower edge of the plate is formed a pin-cushion L and at the bottom of the body is formed a pocket N for holding articles of different kinds. To the body may be attached pencil-holders and other similar devices of that nature.
This case being worn upon the body enables a lady to carry all of her sewing articles constantly with her and to always have them ready for instant use. This case also takes the place of the ordinary wall-pocket.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. A portable work-case consisting of a body having a supporting-band secured thereto, a plate secured thereto horizontally, having one end tu'rned upward and sharpened to form a thread-cutter, and wires secured to the plate upon which the spools are placed, substantially as specified.
2. A portable work-case consisting of abody having a supporting-band connected thereto, a plate secured to the body horizontally, and having its ends turned outward from the body and formed into hooks, one of the hooks being sharpened, for the purpose substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES NEW'TON JEFFERSON.
