To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANK lVEsTON, of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vig- Blocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improvementin wig-blocks.

The object is to provide a light, cheap, convenient, and durable block for the support of wigs while being dressed, and one in which the wig or wigs may be carried during transportation from one place to another.

lVith these ends in view my invention consists in a hollow block made in the general shape of a head at the top, composed of paper and having devices thereon for the attachment of the wig being displayed, shaped, combed, brushed, or otherwise dressed for use.

It still further consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved wig-block. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view with the cover removed, and'Fig. 4: is a detached view of the cover or removable base. J

A represents the block. It is composed, preferably, of paper made in the form of a hollow shell. The general shape is substantially the same as that of an ordinary Wigblock-that is, in the form of a human head at the top and slightly smaller toward the base. The latter is flat and of sufficient size to afford a suitable support.

The block maybe molded or otherwise constructed, just so it is of sufficient strength and rigidity to withstan d the punishment to which an article of its character is subjected, especially when it is carried about to a considerable extent.

The block is provided at different places on its exterior with straps of webbing 1 1 1 for the attachment of the wig. These straps may be variously located; but generally a pair are crossed in front, as shown, and the point of the wig is fastened to them. One is usually placed on each side for the attachment of the temple-pieces, and two are fastened below this point on the rear for securing thebase of the wig. These of course might be differently arranged to suit the size or style of wig; but the arrangement shown and described has been thoroughly tested and found to effectually accomplish the objects sought. The bottom is flat and has an opening 2, bordered by a ring or similar device 3. On the edges a pair of guides at 4 are fixed. The inner edges 5 5 of these guides are beveled or undercut, and the cover or base is adapted to slide between them. This base is made the same shape as the bottom, and is provided at its center with a metal plate 6, which has a screwthrea-ded hole 7 therein for the purpose of screwing or fastening the block in position on a table or to a table-clamp.

My invention is designed more especially to supply a long-felt deficiency in the dramatic and operatic profession, and it is not only made to furnish a support for the wig, but, being hollow and open at the bottom, the wig or Wigs may be placed inside, where they receive protection and are always to be found.

The block may be furnished with a strap or cord 8, by which the base may be tied on, if desired, and the block may be swung over the shoulders in traveling from place to place af ter the manner of a tourists satchel or valise.

It is evident that slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the particular construction herein set forth; but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A wig-block composed of a frame shaped to resemble a head and provided exteriorly with devices for the attachment of a wig, substantially as set forth.

2. A Wig-block composed of a hollow shell rounded in the shape of a head at the top and having a flat open bottom and removable cover, substantially as set forth.

3. A wig-block composed of a hollow shell of paper rounded at the top in the general shape of a head, having a flat bottom with a circular: opening therein and a removable cover or base, snbstantially as set forth.

4. A wig-block composed of a hollow shell having flexible straps thereon for the attachment of a wig, substantially as set forth.
