UNITED s'rnrrps PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. MQINTIRE, or-Asnn'vILLn, NORTH CAROLINA.
v SHAVING APPLIANCE.
1'0 aZZw/tom 2'23 may concern.
Be it knownthat 1,,JOHN A. MGINTIRE, 'a citizen of the United States, residing at Asheville, in .the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented cerform 5 is constructed of sheet metalyor any analogous material, and it has spring ta-in new and useful Improvements in Shavin Appliances; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and exact description of'the' invention, such as will enable others skilledinthe art to which it appertains .to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a device particularly designed for facilitating the operation of shaving by oneself, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device which includes a yoke forresting upon the sliavers shoulders, which yoke supports a platform and a framework which latter framework pivotally supports a mirror forwardly of the operators face, so as to enable him to support the mirror where he can get the best light upon his face for shaving.
Another object of this invention is to provide means for detachablysupporting various appliances used in shaving, such as a shaving mug, soap, and razor, and further to provide a device which may be taken down and folded into a compact form when not in use. 1 a With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detailref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved shaving appliance, showing the same supported for use, Fig. 2 is a crosssection through the appliance, showing the mirror supporting brackets and mirror, Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device, Fig. 4 is a sec tional view on the line 4-4 of. Fig. 3, and
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the yoke of the improved shaving appliance, which is constructed of a strand of wire bent substantially U-shaped, for extending across the shoulders of an operator, and downwardly along the chest, i as is shown in Fig. 1 of the. drawings.
Patented May 16, 1916.
Application filed July 3, 1 515. serial No. 37,867.
The'lower ends of the legs of the yoke 1 are bent angularly to the'yoke, as is shown at 2, and they are slidably mounted in rolls 3 and 4, which are formed along the side edges of the platform 5. The platorresilient arms 6 and 7, which are substantially U -sh apedisecured' thereto. The bight portions of the bars 6 and 7 rest upon the upper surface of the platform 5, and
are secured to the platform, substantially I. to the platform 5, to one side of themember's Sand 7 The Ushaped members lland 12 are smaller than the members 6 and 7, and are constructed in duplicates thereof, being provided for engaging and supporting a box of shaving powder, a shaving stick or the like, as is "indicated at 13. Positioned rearward of, and intermediate the members 6, and '7 and 11 and 12, is a resilient or spring strap 14, which has one end-secured to the uppersurface of the platform 5 by means ofa rivet or analogous fastening de- "vice 15. The strap 14 is curved downwardly,
a short distance inwardly from its outer end, as shown atl6, and it is provided for engaging and holding a razor 1n engagement with the uppersurface of the platform 5,
as indicated at17.
A mirror supporting bracket 20 is pro- 2 vided, which includes legs 21 and 22, which have their lower ends bent angularly to the body of the legs and adapted, as at 23, for insertion into the rolls 3 and 4, which are a formed on the edges of the platform 5, op-
positely from the angled ends 2 of the legs of the yoke 1. The legs '21 and 22 are braced intermediate their ends by crossing brace rods 24. The upper ends of the legs 21 and 22 are bent substantially at right angles to the-bodies of the legs, and inwardly toward each other, as is shown at 26. The inwardly bent ends 26 pivotally support a mirror 27,
' which may be constructed in any desired manner. The legs 21 and 22 are of sufficient length for positioning the mirror forwardly of the face of the operator, so that the mirror maybe positioned properly for facilitating the operation of shaving'by the person using the device.
When the device is not in use, the bracket and the yoke 1, maybe disconnectedfrom the platform 5, and laiddownwardly upon the platform, or positoined in any desired wayfor causing the shaving appliance to assume'a compact form for storage.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the advantages of'construction and of the method of operationof theimproved shaving appliance will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which this 'invention appertains and while in the foregoing description,- the principle of the 'operation, of this invention has been described together with various features of construction, it, is to be understood that certain minorfeatures of construction, combination and arrangement of parts maybe altered to a suit practicalconditions provided such al-o terations are comprehended within the scope,
of what is claimed; 7
What is claimed is 1. In a device as set forth, a yoke formed of astrand of Wire bent substantially U- shaped for extending about an operators neck and downwardly over his chest, the
lower ends of-the legs of said yoke being bent angularly to the legs, a platform having its edges rolled, said angled. ends adapted for removable seating in said rolls, and
- a bracket adapted to support a mirror removably" carried by said platform remote from said yoke. v
2. In a device as set forth, a yoke formed of a strand of wire bent substantially U- shaped for extending about an operators neck and downwardly over his chest, the
lower ends of the legs of said yoke being bent angularlyto the legs, a, platform having its edges rolled, said angled ends adapts ed, for removable seating-'insaid rolls, a' I bracket adapted to support amirror removably carried by said platform remote from said yoke, a plurality of substantially U- shaped resilient arms secured to the upper surface of said platform and arranged for forming article receiving and retaining sockets. I
In a device as set forth, a yoke formed of a strand of wire bent substantially U- shaped for extending about an operators neck and downwardly over his chest, the lower ends of the legs of said yoke being bent angularly to the legs, a platform having its edges rolled, said angled ends adapt- 5 7 ed for removable seating in said rolls,
