UNITED STATES PATENT ETIENNE L. LEFEBURE, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,442, dated April 16, 1889. Application filed September 29, 1888. Serial No. 286,756. (No model.)
To aZl whom may concern.-
Be it known that I, ETIENNE L. LEFEBURE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Scraper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to scrapers for scraping wood and other surfaces, and has for its object to provide a scraper which will be effective in operation and durable.
The invention consists in a scraper constructed and arranged as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing a portion in vertical section on the line a: as, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the scraper-blade detached.
In the construction ofthis invention 1 provide a scraper-blade, 1, formed with the central horizontal portion, 2, and the inclined portions 3, one of the inclined portions 3 being provided with a beveled scraping-edge, a, and the other with teeth 5, having beveled edges 6.
7 indicates a metallic frame consisting of the tubular arms 8, connected together by the transverse bar 9, having a shank, 10, to which is secured a suitable handle, 11. The blade 1 may be detachably secured to frame 7 by means of bolts 12, passing through holes 13 in the blade 1, and through the washers 13', the tubular arms 8, and secured by nuts 14, engaging the screw-threaded ends 15 of bolts 12. By means of the blade 1 being formed with the inclined portions 3 the scrapingedges of the latter will more effectively take hold of the surface which is being scraped.
In use butchers tables, floors, walls, and other surfaces may be scraped, the scraping being first performed with the toothed edge 5, to take into and clean the surface, and then with the beveled edge at to smooth the surface and finish the cleaning. The crossbar 9 is formed with the double inwardlycurvcd portions or depressions 16, which serve to permit the fingers to readily grasp the bar 9 and hold the scraper by this means, as well as by the handle 11.
By having the blade 1 detachable it may be removed for sharpening or to replace it if broken.
WVhile I have set forth a specific construction of parts, I do not intend to limit myself thereto, as the parts may be varied without departing from the essential features of the invention.
This scraper is specially useful for plasterers in cleaning moldings.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A wood-scraper of the character herein described, constructed with a blade having a central horizontal portion and edge portions abruptly inclined at an angle to the central horizontal portion, one of which edge portions has a beveled scraping-edge and the other a scraping-edge formed with short teeth, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a scraper, the combination ,with frame 7 h. ving tubular arms 8, of the blade 1 and the bolts 12, substantially as shown and described.
3. A scraper consisting of the blade 1, formed with the central horizontal portion, 2, and the inclined portions 3, one of which has the beveled scraping-edge a and the other the scraping-teeth 5, with beveled edges 6, the metallic frame '7, consisting of tubular arms 8, connected by cross-bar 9, having depressions 16, bolts 12, passing through holes 13 in blade 1 and tubular arms 8, and secured by nuts 14, engaging the ends of bolts 12, and the handle 11, secured to frame 7, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a scraper, as herein described, the blade 1, formed with a central horizontal portion, 2, and edge portions 3, abruptly inclined at an angle to the central horizontal portion, 2, one of said portions, 3, having the beveled scraping-edge I and the other the short scraping-teeth 5, with beveled edge 6, substantially as shown and described.
