CALKERS AND PAINTER/S TOOL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DYSKO, a citizen of the United States, and residing at WVest Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calkers and Painters Tools, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tools for use by calkers and others for cleaning out scams or cracks in the hulls or structures of boats for the urpose of calking the same, and the object t ereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may also be used by painters and others in cleaning out cracks, seams, corners and the like, of buildings or other structures, for the purpose of closing the same with putty or other material preparatory to painting said buildings or structures.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved tool looking in the direction of the arrow 1 of Fig. 3 ;Fi2'. 2 a similar view looking in the direction of the arrow 2 of Fig. 8 ;-Fig. 3 a front view looking in the direction of the arrow 3 of Fig. 1, and on an enlarged scale; and F i t an end view looking in the direction of t e arrow 4: of Fig. 1 and also on an enlarged scale.
My improved tool comprises a handle a with which. is connected a shank member b having an oblong blade 0. The shank b is preferably set at an angle to the handle a and the blade 0 of the shank b is set at an angle to said shank. The blade 0 is oblong in form and is tapered from the back edge 0 thereof to the front edge 0 and said blade is provided at its free end with a backwardly directed prong 0 which is preferably about half an inch in length, and the end portion 0 of the blade 0 is rounded, as shown, and

the front edge portion thereof is provided with teeth 0 and the opposite sides thereof are provided with transverse teeth 0 The teeth 0 on one side of the blade 0 are preferably formed transversely thereof and at angle of 90 to the longitudinal center of said blade, while said teeth 0 on the opposite side of the blade are preferably set at an inclination to said longitudinal center of the blade. The exact arrangement of the transverse teeth 0 on the opposite sides of the blade 0 is of slight importance and said teeth may be formed as may be desired, and the teeth 0 on the front edge of the blade 0 may also be varied in form.
The prong c is designed for use in cleaning out the bottom of cavities or recesses and also seams and cracks, when desired, and the edge portion 0 of the blade 0 is used for cleaning out seams, cracks, and the like, in which operation the teeth a dig down into the bottom of said scams or cracks, while the teeth 0 clean and scrape the side walls thereof.
It will be understood that my improved tool' may be of any desired dimensions, or, in other words, the blade 0 may be made of any desired length and width, and changes in and modifications of the details of construction shown, and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my in vention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and. desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A tool of the class described comprising a handle provided with a blade shank secured to one end thereof and provided with a blade which projects at an angle thereto, said blade being tapered from the back edge thereof forwardly on both sides, and the front edge thereof being provided with teeth and the opposite sides thereof with transverse teeth.
