CEIVIENT-SIDEWALK CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mlay 7, 1907.
Application filed February 1,1907. Serial No. 355,74z1.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK V. HEALY and JOHN H. Fox, citizens of the United States, residing at Sac City, in the county of Sac and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Cement-Sidewalk Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.
Our object is first, to provide means to facilitate and lessen the manual labor required for removing snow from sidewalks .&c.; second, to detachably connect all the parts of the device so they can .be advantageously packed for storing and shipping as required to economize space and cost. Third, to prevent snow from falling rearward off the top edge of the scraper -as it is pushed forwar to gather and move snow.
Our invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in our claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in osition for use as required for scrap ing an pushing snow from a pavement or like flat surface. Fig.- 2 is a bottom view of the device and shows how the handle and braces are detachably fixed to the scraper. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the central line and shows a shank on its back for connecting a handle therewith.
The numeral 10 designates a scraper made of sheet metal. It is about eight inches wide and thirty inches long and has straight edges. The lower edge is doubled backward and reinforced by a straight bar 12 riveted thereto as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. A pointed shank 13 is riveted on the back of the scraper 10 at its center to project uward as shown in Fig. 3. A wooden handle 14 having a fixed of the braces are detachably fixed to the end portions of the back of the scraper 10 as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus set forth the purposes of our invention and the manner of its construction and use, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is-
1. In a device for scraping and cleaning snow from pavements, a scraper having par allel edges at its top and bottom and the upper edge portion curved forward, its lower edge doubled inward and a metal bar fixed on the under side of its lower edge.
2. In a device for scraping and cleaning snow from pavements, a scraper having parallel edges at its top and bottom and the upper edge portion curved forward and a pointed shank fixed across its back at its center.
3. A device for removing snow from sidewalks and like flat surfaces consisting of a scraper having parallel edges and its upper edge portion curved forward and a shank fixed to its rear face and center to project upward, a wooden handle having a socket atits lower end to admit the shank and two braces detachably fixed to the handle and to the back and end ortions of the scraper by means of screw I? as shown and described.
