Description

P. ZUENKELER.
Shoe-Brush.
No. 216,123. Patented June 3, i879.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
FERDINAND ZUENKELER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,] 23, dated June 3, 1879; a plication filed January 30, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND ZUENKE- LER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shoe-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement is designed to combine in one implement two brushes, one on each side of a handle, which, being prolonged beyond them in the form of a wedge or blade, enables the operator to scrape off or remove dirt from the shoe or boot to be operated upon.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a brush embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of another form of brush. Fig. 3 shows a separate view of my scraper and the means preferred for securing the same and the brushes together.
A is a handle, of maple or other hard wood,
- having a wedge-formed prolongation, B, to
serve as a scraper. To each surface of the Wedge prolongation B is attached, by Woodscrew C or other means, a brush, D and E. The prolongation B is of one integral piecewith the handle, and may have any desired shape, as in the several figures.
By forming the scraper out of a forward prolongation of the handle itself, it can be more easily and cheaply manufactured than where the scraper is a separate piece attached to the brush by means of screws or other fastenin gs.
I am aware that shoe-brushes have been constructed with removable scrapers attached to the brush in various ways, so as to project at either the side or frontend. I therefore do not broadly claim a shoe-brush provided with a scraper; but
I claim- As a new article of manufacture, the shoebrush consisting of handle A, having the de scribed prolongation B, in piece therewith, and brushes D E, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
FERDINAND ZUENKELER. Attest:
