MEAT BLOCK AND BENCH SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,556, dated March 21, 1905.
Application filed May 2, 1904. Serial No. 206,062.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE EDWIN KENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Centralia, in the county of Louis and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat Block and Bench Scrapers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in scrapers for meat blocks and benches.
The object of the invention is to provide a scraper for this purpose which will not gouge into hollow or soft places in the block and which will take down raised or uneven places, thereby forming a smooth level surface on the block or bench.
Another object is to provide a scraper which can be readily cleaned and from which the knives or scrapers may be quickly removed for sharpening.
A further object is to provide a scraper which will be simple in construction, strong,
' durable, inexpensive, and well adapted tothe purpose for which it is designed.
\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a scraper constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the scraper. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the body of the scraper, which is preferably formed of an oblong block of wood having a curved or rounded top or upper surface 2. The side of the block midway between its ends is hollowed out or shaped to enable a firm grip to be taken on the block when in use. The edges of the block may be beveled and the corners carved out to present a somewhat ornamental and attractive appearance.
In the lower side of the block, near each end of the same, are formed vertical transverselydisposed slots or grooves 3, in which are arranged transversely-disposed scraping blades or plates 4:, having their lower edges ground or sharpened.
In each end of the block are clamping screws 5, which pass through holes in the ends of the block and are screwed into nuts 6, which are countersunk in recesses 7 formed in the outer wall of the slots or grooves 3. When the screws 5 are screwed inwardly, the ends of the same pass through the nuts 6 and engage depressions or recesses 8, formed in the side of the scraper plates or knives, thereby firmly clamping the same in place, but permitting them to be readily removed when desired. In the upper side of the block, between eachend of the same and the line of the slots or grooves 3, are driven screws 9, which pass nearly through the block to its under side. These screws prevent the ends of block beyond the slots from splitting off.
If desired, the ends of the block may be recessed to permit the heads of the clampingscrews to be countersunk into the block.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
