N ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALICE E. HOUGHTON, OF SLIDELL, LOUISIANA.
SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 614,810, dated November 22, 1898.
Application filed April 26, 1898. gerial No. 678,849. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALICE E. HOUGHTON, of Slidell, in the parish of St. Tammany and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Scraper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in devices for-scraping various surfaces, andis in= tended particularly for use about the kitchen, although adapted for use in Various other places.
It comprises the novel features which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a section upon the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
My device is made from a thin plate or bar of spring metal, preferably steel, and is bent into an S shape, as shown in the drawings, which is in the form of a flattened S or one having the longitudinal portions much elongated. This forms three parallel sections A, B, and O, which are connected with each other by the bent portions D and D. The central portion of the plate upon one edge projects slightly beyond the remainder of the plate and is provided with teeth, as shown at E. These teeth preferably extend about both curves D and D.
One end Gof the plate is made square, while the other end F is rounded, the curve merging into the side line of the plate. The ends F and G project slightly beyond the bends D and D, as shown. By thus projecting said ends their usefulness is greatly enhanced, as it enables parts to be more readily reached than would be the case if they terminated short of or even at said bends. The edges of the plate are beveled or sharpened, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, excepting that portion which is toothed.
The peculiar construction of this device enables some part of it to be used in scraping almost any kind of surface. The rounded end F may be applied to curved or hollowed surfaces, while the points at either end may be used to get into sharp corners. The bends D or D may also be used to get at rounded surfaces, while the straight edges may be used for flat surfaces.
This scraper is also very convenient in use,
as two of the bends-for instance, the sections 5 5 Aand Bmay be grasped between the hand, while the third is used for scraping. This article will be of great use in the kitchen, and may also be used for removing paint or any other matter from surfaces of almost any shape.
It will be noted that the scraper is so sim ple in construction that it may be easilykept clean.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Asoraper, consisting ofaplate or thin bar bent in an S shape, forming three substan tially parallel sections connected by bends, the outer sections terminating in free ends, one of which is square and the other rounded, substantially as described.
2. A scraper, consisting ofa plate or thin bar bent in an S shape, forming three substantially parallel sections connected by bends, the central portion projecting at one edge upon one side a little beyond the end portions and being toothed, substantially as described.
3. Ascraper, comprisinga plate or thin bar bent into flattened S shape, forming three substantially parallel sections connected by bends, the outer sections each havinga sharp ened edge and the middle section being pro vided with teeth on one edge, substantially as described.
4. A scraper, comprising a plate or thin bar bent into S shape, forming three substantially parallel sections connected by bends, 0 the outer sections each having a sharpened edge and the middle section and bends being provided with teeth on one edge, substantially as described.
5. Ascraper, consistingofaplate orthin bar bent into a flattened S shape, forming three substantially parallel sections connected by bends, the ends of the plates being free and projecting slightly beyond the bends, and the edges being sharpened, substantially as described.
6. Asanew article of manufaoture,a scraper having three substantially parallel sections connected by bends, the middle section and the bends having one edge sharpened and provided with teeth on the other edge, the
outer sections having both edges sharpened and their ends projecting beyond the bends, IO the projecting end of one section being rounded and the other square, as set forth.
