CABINET-SCRAPER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 717,498, dated December 80, 1902.
Application led May 8.1902. Serial No.106,412. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL DEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Cabinet-Scraper Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for holding scraper-blades such as are commonly used by carpenters and cabinet-makers.
The object of myinvention is to provide a holder for scrapers that can be easily and cheaply manufactured and that can be quickly attached to or detached from a scraper-blade of common construction, also to be strong and sufficiently rigid for the purpose required of it. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of my device; Fig. 2 a side view, and Fig. 3 a partial section, of the shank and metal cap looking in the direction of the arrow l, Fig. 2.

A is a bent and forked metal shank, one end of which is threaded to receive the wooden handle B, and the other end is rigidly fastened (preferably cast in one piece) to an axis C, the oval-shaped metal cap D having a lug at each end, said lugs being perforated to receive the ends of the axis C and adapted to' rotate thereon. The fork ends e e of shank A are rounded olf, so as to form cams adapted to press against the scraper-blade F when in position for use. Said blade in turn presses against the two sides of the metal cap D, thereby holding the scraper-blade firmly in position for use.
The dotted lines, Fig. 2, showing scrapingblade F and metal cap D, illustrate position of same when it is desired to remove blade F from holder. To insert scraping-blade F in holder, place the metal cap D in the position Vshown by dotted lines, Fig. 2, then pass the blade between the cams e e and the cap D, and then grasp the top of the blade F and move it in the direction of the arrow 2, Fig. 2, until it strikes the shank A, when it will be held securely ready for use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- In a scraper-holder, the combination, with a bent and forked metal shank, threaded at one end to receive a wooden handle, an axis rigidly fastened to the other end of said shank and cams formed on both fork-points, an ovalshaped metal cap having a lug at each end, said lugs perforated to receive the axis C, and adapted to rotate thereon, a scrapingblade between the two cams and the metal cap, substantially as set forth.
