Description

J. HUBER.
NUT WRENCH. APPLICATION FILED APB.24, 1913.
1,080,064. Patented Dec. 2, 1913.
PIG/725553:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACQUES HUBER, 0F BASED, SWITZERLAND.
NUT-WRENCH.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, JACQUES HUBER, merchant, a citizen of the Swiss Confederation, residing at Streitgasse No. 7, Basel, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut-Wrenches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates to a wrench adapted for use as a nut-wrench and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
One object of my invention is to provide a wrench having a series of tumblers mounted on a handle to form an adjustable companion jaw to suit nuts of diiferent sizes.
A further object of my invention is to provide a wrench composed of elements which may be readily assembled or disassembled.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wrench embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a section on line A-B of Fig. 1 with the tumblers out of the jaws. Fig. 3 is a section on line AB of Fig. 1 with the tumblers between the jaws.
The improved wrench comprises a handle 1 and two fixed jaws 16, 17. In the space 2 between the jaws 16, 17 a series of tumblers 5 are arranged (Figs. 1 and 3). Each of the tumblers 5 consists of a fiat piece of iron which is journaled on a pin 4 the latter being mounted in lugs 3, 3 of the handle. Between the tumblers 5 and one of the lugs 3 a coiled spring 6 is arranged which presses the tumblers 5 against the jaw 16. The handle 1 is further provided with a recess 7 into which the tumblers 5 maybe placed when out of use. To the bottom of said re- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 24, 1913.
Patented Dec. 2, 1913.
Serial No. 763,335.
cess 7 a plate spring 9 is fixed by means of a screw 8. The spring 9 is bent off at 10 and rests against the side walls 13 of the tumblers 5 when the same are out of use and against the side walls 12 when the tumblers are between the jaws 16, 17 thus securing the tumblers against accidental displacement. At the side of the recess 7 a lug 15 is provided Which protects the tumblers 5 when out of use against blows, etc. The width of the space 2 may be varied according to the size of the nuts by turning more or fewer tumblers between the jaws.
It will be understood that various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
1. A wrench comprising in combination a handle, two jaws on said handle, a series of tumblers rotatably mounted on a pin on said handle, a coiled spring around said pin to hold the tumblers together, a spring adapted to hold said tumblers when in or out of use, a lug for protecting the tumblers which are not used substantiallyas described.
2. A wrench comprising in combination a handle, two jaws on said handle, a series of tumblers rotatably mounted on a pin of said handle, a coiled spring around said pin to hold the tumblers together, a blade spring arranged in a recess of said handle, a bent off portion on said blade spring adapted to press against the hind ends of all the tumblers, a lug for protecting the tumblers substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACQUES HUBER.
