MARKING ATTACHMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 607,248, dated July 12, 1898.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, SAMPSON TV. LANE, of Waco, in the county of McLennan and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Marking Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to devices for marking or drawing curved or straight lines with oil or water-color paints or other materials in aregular symmetrical manner; andit consists, essentially, of an attachment for a brush, comprising a gage and feeder.

Thetinvention further consists of the details of construction and arrangement which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a brush, showing the improved attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a similar view looking at the opposite side of the brush and its attachments.

Referring to the drawings, wherein similar numerals of reference are employed to indieat-e corresponding parts in the several views, the numeral 1 designates a brush of any suitable width and having a handle 2. On the said brush is removably and adjustably mounted a gage 3, consisting of a clamp 4, extended downwardly and expanded so as to form angularly-bent arms 5, whose outer surfaces are in a straight plane and adapted to be brought against the edge of a ruler or other analogous device. Above the gage a suitable clamp 6 is applied to the handle, and integrally formed therewith or otherwise attached thereto is a feeder 7, consisting of a plate'converging toward its lower end, having upturned edges 8 to form sides, and also 0011- siderably reducing the lower or outlet end 9.

sure'on the brush the line may be increased or decreased in width. Of course it will be understood that the device as thus described can be employed in connection with a curved ruler in forming curved lines with equal efficiency.

Owing to the simplicity of the several parts the cost of manufacture is reduced to a minimum, and it is obviously apparent that many minor changes in the construction and arrangement of the several parts might be made and substituted for those shown and described without in the least departing from the nature and spirit of the invention or detracting from its advantages.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- In a marking'device, the combination with a brush, of a gage consisting of a clamp extended downwardly and expanded to form angnlarly-bent arms having their outer surfaces on a straight plane, and adapted to be brought against the edge of a ruler or like device, and a feeder consisting of a plate con verging toward its lower end and having upturned edges to form sides and provided at its upper end with a continuous clamp to en gage the handle of the brush, the said brush being also passed through the clamp forming a part of the gage, substantially as described.
