Be it known that 1, ANDREW F. Mnnsi-I,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainfield, in the county of Union, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full clear and eXact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to scrapers and particularly to those of the type used in removing paint and smoothing wood.

The object of the invention is to provide a scraper of the type named adapted to be operated after the fashion of a draw knife and embodying four scraping edges which can be brought successively into use by simply turning the device.

A further object of the invention is to provide a scraper of the type named which can be easily sharpened and in which the blade when broken can be easily replaced by a new blade.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and com bination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a scraper constructed in accordance with the inven tion; Fig. 2, a view similar to Fig. 1 with the parts of the scraper in operative posi tion, and Fig. 3, a transverse section through the blade of the scraper.

Referring to the drawings the improved. scraper is shown as comprising a blade 10 preferably constructed of spring steel which will permit the blade to be bent centrally in either direction. Detachably secured to each end of the blade 10 through the medium of screws 11 are handles 12 and 13 which are adapted to be gripped in the operation of the scraper. The blade 10 is of rectangular cross section as shown in Fig. 3 and the longitudinal edges of the blade constitute four cutting edges 14-, 15, 16 and 17.

In operation if it is desired to utilize the edge 15 the scraper is bent to the position shown in Fig. 2. If it' is desired to utilize the edge 1'1 then the scraper bent opposite to what is shown in Fig. To utilize the edges 16 and 17 it is only necessary to turn the scraper so as to dispose the edges 16 and 17 below the edges 1 1 and 15. The edges 14: and 15 can be easily sharpened with a file by simply operating upon the face of the blade between said edges and the edges 16 and 17 can be easily sharpened in a similar manner. In the event the blade 10 should become broken the screws 11 can be easily removed and a new blade applied.

It will thus be seen that there has been provided an exceedinglysimple scraper embodying very few parts and having a relatively large number of scraping edges capable of being sharpened in pairs by a single operation.

That is claimed is 1. A scraper for uneven surfaces, varialjwle in longitudinal configuration during a single scraping stroke and consisting of a flexible metal strip having a longitudinal scraping edge and provided with end handles for drawing it and simultaneously changing its longitudinal configuration.

A scraper for uneven surfaces consisting of a metal blade having terminal handles, the blade being variable in longitudinal configuration during a single scraping stroke, under the influence of said terminal handles.
