Toall whom Beit lmown that I, EDWARD SENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eg Harbor City, county of htlant'ic, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and usefullmpmvement in Hoes, of which the following isga s' cification. 1
improvement in hoes, and has for itscbject reasonable in cost.
to 'providefan exceedingly simple and efiective device of this character whereby the blade and socket thereof may beinade from one, piece of sheet metal; a further object of my invention is to construct a hoe'which will .bestrong and durable but which will be With these ends, in view,
combination of elements hereinafter set forth and ,then specifically designated" by the claims;
y In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how-t make and use the'same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a which I Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from :which my improved hoe is formed. Fig. 2, a perspective'view of my improvedhoe, the
handle being removed, Fig. 3, a side elevation of the same, a portion of the .handle over and curved as clearly shown in Fig.2 so
My invention} re ates-to a newand useful I this invention consists in the details of construction and part of this specification, in
as to form the socket D. In this socket are formed the screw receiving openings E- through which screws may be passed then threaded into the handle -F for holding the,
socket and blade'to said handle:
- The neck portion Gr between the socket portion C and the blade '3 is given a half turn as indicated at H so that this portion willbe thoroughly braced andstrengthened thuspreventing it from breaking at this point.
In order that the blade B may be strengthened especially in the case of very large or wide hoes said blade mighthave corrugations 'I or the raised portion J formed therein which will prevent said blade from bending. 3
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown as these. may the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is
1. In a hoe, a'blade and socket formed from a blank the neck portion being twisted a half turn for strengthening said neck portion which runs between the. blade and socket, a handle, and means for-securing said handle to the socket, as specified.
2. Ina hoe, blade and socket formed from a blank, the neck portion thereof being twisted ahalf turn for strengthening said neck portion which runs between the blade and socket,corr ugations formed on the blade,
' a handle, and means for securing said handle to the socket, as shown and described.
. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto.- aflixed my signature in the presence of twosubscribing witnesses.
