Description
T. B. HUBBARD ROD BENDER Filed May 24, 1924 Patented Mar. 9 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THE O BOS E'D HUBBARD, F HOUSTON, TEXAS.
ROD BENDER.
Application filed May 24, 1924:. Serial No. 715,761.
. Another object of theinvention is to pro vide an implement of the character described I which is of very simple structure and may be cheaply produced and easily handled.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein r Figure 1 shows a plan View of the device.
Figure 2 shows a side elevation. Figure 3 shows a plan view showing a filler block employed in bending small rods; and,
Figure 4; shows a cross sectional view taken on the line of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the base block, preferably of wood, whereon is mounted a metallic plate 2, which may be bolted thereto, and which is formed with an upturned flange 8. Spaced from one end of the flange 3, there is a hole 4-, through the plate 2, and base 3, forming a bearing. 40
Y The numeral 5 designates a handle, one end of which is overturned forminga spin dle (3, which is adapted to work in said bearing, and spaced from said spindle there is a depending lug 7, formed integrally with 4 the handle.
In. use the rod to be bent is placed on the plate 2, alongside the flange 3 and the spindle 6 is inserted in the bearing 4 with the handle extending transversely with respect to the rod, so that the rod will be in the notch between the spindle and lug 7. The
handle may then be swung around the required distance to give the desired bend or an gle.
In case small rods are to be bent a filler block, as 8, may be employed, and inter posed between the flange 3 and the rod. This block may have a U-shaped extension 9, if desired to receive the end of the flange 6 3, which will hold the blockin upright position.
What I claim is:
In combination a rod bender comprising a base formed with a socket bearing therein, a portion of said base being integral and upturned forming a flange spaced from the bearing, a filler block associated with the flange, a handle l'orn'ied. at one end with a spindle adapted to work in said bearing and a depending lug carried by the handle lying in the same plane as said spindle and spaced therefrom.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THEO BOYD HUBBARD.
