Definitions

  • ABSTRACT The machine has a motor for driving a cutting tool.
  • a water-circulating cooling system is associated with the motor to cool the same and is provided with a Watercooling cooler and a water pump having an impeller for circulating water to and from the motor to cool the same and through the cooler.
  • a fan serves to deliver air to the cooler to cool the water therein.
  • An oildriven gear-type fluid drive has a housing, an output shaft mounted in the housing and having two opposite shaft end portions extending out of the housing on opposite sides thereof, and an output gear carried by the shaft in the housing. One of the shaft end portions carries the fanwheel. The other of the shaft end portions carries the impeller.
  • This invention relates to a dividing cutting machine which comprises a water-cooled cutting tool drive motor. If sufficient water of the required purity is available and if water may be used for dust control, fresh water may be used for cooling and the heated water is then sprayed for dust control. Unless these requirements are met, a circulating cooling system must be provided and provision must be made in this case for means for driving the water pump and the fan as well as for cooling the circulated water.
  • the invention resides in that the water pump and the fan are cooled by an oil-driven gear-type fluid drive, the output shaft of which protrudes from the housing of the fluid drive on both sides and carries the fan wheel on one shaft end portion and the impeller of the water pump on the other shaft end portion.
  • the oil-driven fluid drive is used to carry the fan and water pump, and the bearing means for the output shaft of the oil-driven fluid drive may constitute the bearing means for the fan and the water pump at the same time.
  • the water pump and fan and their drive means are combined in a compact, lightweight unit, which can be built in as such.
  • the oil-driven fluid drive is suitably connected on its pressure side to the oil return conduit of the hydraulic system of the cutting machine.
  • Each dividing cutting machine comprises a hydraulic system at least for imparting a pivotal movement of the jib arm.
  • the return flow of oil from this hydraulic system is utilized to drive the water pump and fan so that a separate drive motor is not required for this purpose. This is of special advantage for cutting machines used underground.
  • FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the arrangement
  • FIG. 2 is an axial sectional view showing the oildriven fluid drive, the fan, and the water pump.
  • a jib arm 1 is connected at its end 2 to the rotating mechanism, not shown, of the dividing cutting machine.
  • a cutting tool 3 is driven by a motor, which is accommodated in the jib arm.
  • a cooling water pump 4 delivers cooling water through a conduit 5 to the motor.
  • the cooling water returns in a conduit 6 to a cooler 7 for the circulating water; this cooler is supplied with air by a fan 8.
  • the cooled cooling water flows from the cooler 7 through a conduit 9 to a header tank 10 and from the latter through a conduit 11 to the suction side of the cooling water pump 4.
  • An overpressure relief valve 12 and a suction valve 13 are associated with the header tank 10.
  • the water pump 4 and the fan 8 are driven by an oildriven gear-type fluid drive 14 which, on its discharge side 15, is connected by a flow control valve 16 to an oil return conduit 17 of the hydraulic system of the cutting machine.
  • the oil-driven fluid drive 14 On its outlet side 18, the oil-driven fluid drive 14 is connected by a conduit 19 to an oil reservoir 20.
  • the flow control valve 16 ensures that part of the oil returned from the hydraulic'sys'tem of the cutting machine is supplied at a constant rate to the oil-driven fluid drive 14 and the surplus oil is supplied through a conduit 21 into the oil tank 20. 22 is a built-in filter.
  • the oil-driven fluid drive is similar to a gear pump.
  • Two gears 24 and 25 are mounted in a three-part housing 23.
  • the output gear of the fluid drive 14 is mounted on a shaft 26 which, by means of a bushing 27, is mounted in the housing 23 of the fluid drive.
  • Shaft end portion 28 carries the fan 8 and shaft end portion 29 carries an impeller 30 of the water pump 4. Oil that has leaked from the oil-driven fluid drive when seals 31 have failed will flow from the two seals 31 into a drain 32 so that an otherwise possible oil contamination of the cooling water and cooler (when the contaminated water is atomized by the fan) is avoided.
  • a water-circulating cooling system for a watercooled cutting motor of a dividing cutting machine provided with a hydraulic system comprising a water pump,
  • a water-circulating cooling system for a watercooled cutting motor of a dividing cutting machine provided with a hydraulic system, comprising a water pump, a fan, a water-cooling cooler, water flow lines extending between and interconnecting said pump, said cooler, and the motor, and
  • an oil driven gear-type fluid drive driving said water pump and cooler
  • said fluid drive having a housing and a drive shaft having ends, said drive shaft extending from both sides of the housing, a fan wheel mounted on one shaft end, an impeller of said water pump mounted on the other shaft end, said fluid drive having a discharge side, and means to circulate oil to the gear-type drive including an oil return conduit of the hydraulic system connected to the discharge side of the fluid drive.
  • a water-circulating cooling system for a watercooled cutting motor of a dividing cutting machine provided with a hydraulic system, comprising a water pump,
  • an oil-driven gear-type fluid drive driving said water pump and cooler
  • said fluid drive having a housing and a drive shaft having ends, said drive shaft extending from both sides of the housing, a fan wheel mounted on one shaft end, an impeller of the water control valve which supplies a constant portion of the amount of oil return from the hydraulic system to thc fluid drive and which returns the excess amount of oil to an oil tank.
