Description
(No Model.)
A G. HOWE.
BUTTER TUB. No. 380,487. Patented Apr. 3, 1888.
WITNESSES i INVENTUR I ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT Urrrcn.
ALEXANDER O. HOWE, OF IDANA, KANSAS.
BUTTER-TU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,487, dated April 3, 1888.
Application filed January 5, 1885. Serial No. 259,883.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LALEXANDER C. Howeof Idana, in the county of Clay and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Butter-Tub, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a partthereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved butter-tub, and Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the upper part of the tub.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
The object of my invention is to provide a butter-tub having an air-tight cover provided with simple and effective fasteners.
The invention consists in the peculiar con strnction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
The chine A of the tub Bis grooved or made in two diameters, a Z), and is flared outwardly to receive the beveled rabbeted edge 0 of the cover 0. The beveled edge of the cover is arranged to fit tightly in the grooved chine of the tab, so that when it is pressed down into place it Will be practically air-tight.
To three or more points on the periphery (N'o model.)
of the tub are fastened rightangled clips D, which extend over the top of the chine, and to the top of the cover 0 are pivoted latches d, having beveled ends e,which are adapted to wedge underneath the ends of the clips D, thus forcing the cover downward into the chine and holding it securely in its place.
The clips D and the latches d are preferably made of malleable iron, and to prevent them from oxidation they are tinned or galvanized.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the tub B, having a flaring chine, A, grooved in two diameters, a and b, of the cover 0, having a beveled rabbeted edge, substantially as described.
2. The combinatiomwith the tub B, having the flaring chine A, grooved in two diameters, a and b, of the cover 0, having the flaring beveled rabbetcd edge, the clips D, secured to the tub, and the beveled latches d, adapted to engage the said clips and hold the cover 0 securely in its place, substantially as described.
A. C. HOWE.
