Description

(No Model.)
W. MOORE.
SAW PILE'ADJUSTING WEI HT;
Patented Feb. '7, 1888;
WITNESSES INVENTOR:
ATTORNEYS. 8
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
WILLIAM MOORE, OF MOONEY, INDIANA} SAW-FILE-ADJUSTING'WEIGHT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,528, dated February 7, 1 88 Application filed September 3, 1887. Serial No. 248,697. (No model.)
. Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 isa longitudinal section, of the file-handle.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for saw-files by which the file may always be held at the same angle, thus insuring v uniformity in the angles of the teeth.
My invention consists in the combination, with a file-handle, of a pendent weight adj ust-- ably attached to the handle and adapted to hold the file at the proper angle by gravity.
To the handle A-is attached a long ferrule, B, which projects beyond the end of the handle and receives a centrally-apertured wooden plug, 0, into which is inserted the tang D of the file E. To the ferrule B is fitted the eye F, which is formed integrally with the shank G of the weight H. In the eye F is inserted the thumb-screw I, for binding it in the position of use on the ferrule B.
In using my improved attachment the screw I in the eye F is loosened and the file 'E is placed in the working position in the teeth of the saw, when the eye F is clamped upon the ferrule B by the set-screw I. The file is now applied to the saw in the usual way, while the pendent weight H preserves the angle at which the file was first adj usted,and both sides of the saw can be filed without changing end of saw or position of the file; but if end of the saw is changed after one half of the teeth have been filed the position of the file is adjusted for the other'half in the manner already described.-
The centrally-apertured plug 0 after long use becomes worn, so as to be worthless. It may then be removed and replaced by a new plug of the same kind, thereby saving thehandle and permitting of using it indefinitely.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent handle, of a pendent weight, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the file E and handle A, provided with the ferrule B, of the pendent weight H, provided with the shank G, the eye F, and thumbscrew I, substantially as described.
3. As a new article of manufacture, an attach ment for file-handles, consisting of the weight H, provided with the shank G, having an eye,
.5 1. The combination, with a saw-file and file- F, to receive the file-handle, and with athumbscrew, I, for securing it in position on the handle, as set forth.
