UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD HENDERSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLD-HOLDERS FOR GOLD-LEAFCUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,620, dated May 14, 1878; application filed April 19, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, EDWARD HENDERSON, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mold-Holder for Gold-Leaf Gutters, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a plan view of my improved mold-holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
S imilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in a vise or clamp to be used by gold-leaf manufacturers for holding the mold while the leaves are removed to be out into sizes and placed in books.
Referring to the drawing, A and B are the jaws of the clamp, which are hinged together at one end. and serrated upon their inner faces at the other end. The jaws are slightly curved near the joint, and are pressed apart by a flat spring, a, which is attached to the jaw B, and presses against the jaw A.
A threaded stud, b, is screwed or riveted into the jaw B at or near the middle of its length, and projects through an oblong hole in the jaw A, and is provided with a wing-nut, O, by which the jaws are forced together.
A dovetailed or beveled arm,D, projects from the side of the jaw 13, and is fitted to a plate, E, in which there is a dovetailed slot, 0. The plate E is provided with holes for receiving screws, by which it is fastened to the bench.
The mold is clamped between the jaws of the holder by turning the wing-nut 0, when the skin leaves of the mold may be turned without danger of disarrangement.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The mold-holder for gold-leaf cutters herein described, consisting of the hinged jaws A B, spring a, clamping bolt and nut b 0, arm D, and slotted or grooved plate E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
