L. L. soLEM. BRUSH HOLDER.
No. 592,838. Patented Nov. 2, 1897.
uV/az'iig ZI/izzasaai /VM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LABS L. SOLEM, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
BRUSH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,838, dated November 2, 1897. Application filed April 16, 1897. Serial No. 632,481. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LARs L. SOLEM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Ilennepiu and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanyin g drawings.
This invention relates to brush-ho1ders,and more particularly to that class in which the handle of the brush is clamped between two jaws and held securely therein.
The object of this invention is to provide a brush-holder which can be secured to a handle of any length desired and one which can be adjusted to fit brush-handles of different sizes.
Another object of this invention is to provide a brush-holder which holds the brush in such a position that when it is used from a scaifold or the ground the face of the brush is held flush against the object to be painted.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the particular construction of the various parts and in the novel manner of combination or arrangement of said parts, all of which will be described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view of my improved brush-holder as applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line as a; of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail View showing the construction of the brush-receptacle.
Referring to the drawings, A-represents a tubular casting of any suitable light and durable material, having its portion B provided with internal screw-threads a for the reception of a handle 0. The portion D is cut away, as shown at b, and the sides of the said cut-away portion are forced out, forming a semicircular receptacle 0, somewhat larger than onehalf of the circumference of the portion B.
The aforesaid portion D is externally screwthreaded, as is shown at e. The relation of the notches din the sides of the portion D are such with respect to each other that when a brush is placed therein it is held at an angle with the holder. Within the cut-away portion at the point f is hinged a clamping; jaw E, which is somewhat curved and adapted to fit in the semicircular receptacle 0. It is also provided with notches which register with the notches 01.
G is a thumb-nut operated by means of the thumb-pieces 7 h, by which it is made to traverse the screw e in operating the jaw E in of a handle, and its portion D cut away at b,
the sides of the said cut-away bent out and notches in the said sides, the relation of these notches being such to each other that when the brush is placed therein it is held at an angle with the holder, a clamping-jaw hinged in the said cut-away portion, and means for clamping the jaw and casting, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LARS '-L. SOLEM.
