SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 37,924, dated January 2,4, 1.88?.A
Apbiicmon sied .my 21, ies-1.
My invention is an improved construction of corset, and one that is more especially designed for use as anursing-corset, orwhenever for any reason the wearer desi res a corset which will permit of easy access to the breast, as in casesof an injury to or affection of the breast.
It also has for its object the addition thereto of avest whichy may be used as a'substitute for the underwaist worn byladies, and, in connection with the other constructions, serves important functions and assists in finishing the corset, and whereby it can,Y be rendered more ornamental than in the present forms.l
In the drawings I have illustrated one form in which I have contemplated embodying my invention, and said'jnvention is disclosed in f the following specification and claims.
Figure 1 shows the frontof my corsetas applied to the body ofthe wearer. Fig. 2 is a side elevation 'ot' a part of a corset. a front elevation of the corset with the vest detached from v'the front thereof and extended above'the same. Fig. 4 shows the corset in position for nursing. N
A is the main corset-body, which isconstructed in the usual manner, except `that the front of the same is cut away ata a, asshown. This portion is preferably cut away so that the upper edge of the corset shall .come below the breasts of the wearer. setcut away at thesepoints is lled by a knitted portion, a a', of a plain or lace-like texture,
which are preferably provided at their, upper edges with 'drawing-strings adapted to be tied at any convenient part of said edges.
To the back of the corset is attached the yoke-piece B, and to this yoke-pieceis attached the vest C, composed of the parts cc. These two parts areunited alongtheir meeting edges by buttons, as shown, by hooks and eyes, or in any ether preferred manner. 'Ihese vparts and `ered or otherwise ornamented to give a pleascover the breast and the head of the child.L Fig. 3 isy vided'with afullyo-ke providedwitharin- The part of the corserially@ 244.891. (No modeir the yoke-piece B are cut away to form the neckopening b. f
When in positionon the wearer, the vest is drawnover and down in frontofthecorset 55? n.
The front of the vest-pieces may be embroid. i'. i
I When it is desired to exposethevb'reast of the wearer, the vest can be unfastened at the side and thrown back, as shown in Fig. 4, the drawingstring in the knitted portions ofthe corset-front loosened, and the knitted portic'in.'V being of light and loose texture, can 'then be easily pressed below and away from the breast.
The 'vest can be made of-*knitted Vmaterial y'similar to that employedV in jersey goods, whichv possessesacertaindegree of elasticity'and will, fold 'away without creasing and yield suflciently to aid in exposing the breast of the wearer. VIt serves to cover the corset atvs'uch times as desired, is easily removed, and when the child isnursing it can be replaced so as to These'I regard as the more important functions Vof the vest, though it has the other ad vantages set forth herein.
In the drawings the corset is shown as proholes E E and shoulder-straps or supports e e,- but I propose applying my improvements to f all forms of corsets, whether providedwith yokes or not, and to all waists used assubsti-v tutesfor corsets. y 1 9o Whatclailmanddesire tosecu'rebyLetters Patent, is d y' 1 A nursing waist or corsetthe main body of which is provided with cut-'away portions for the breasts of the wearer, said cut-awaygg portions being tted with knitted material,
