Description

S. N. LEOPARD.
APPAREL.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 12. 1919.
Patented June 1, 1920.
SARAH N. LEOPARD, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
PATENT OFFICE.
APPAREL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pat t d J l 192 Application filed June 12, 1919. Serial No. 303,650.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, SARAH N. LnorARn, a
I citizen of the United States, residin at Atcombination garment may lanta, in the county of Fultonand tate of have invented certain new and use- 1 ful Improvements in Apparel, of which the Georgia,
following is a specification.
The present invention relates to feminine wearing apparel, and more particularly to undergarments.
The object is to provide a combination body garment that will properly maintain its position on the wearer, and will eliminatethe expense of a plurality of sets of trimmings and the unsatisfactory and un sightly plurality of sets of supporting shoulder straps, at the same time providing a garment that is entirely practical, convenient, and one that can *4: made as plain or as ornamental as desired.
In the accompanying drawings a- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combination garment, indicating the same on a wearer.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the present invention, the undergarment is designated 3, andis a combined undershirt or undervest and drawers, the latter preferably being substantially legless, and made of any desired material and pattern.
Surrounding the upper portion thereof is a corsetcover garment or camisole, designated 4, which may be as plain or aselaborate as, desired. These two garments are united at their upper ends as shown at 5, preferably by stitching the same together. The lower portion of the outer garment 4 preferably terminates substantially at the waist line and is entirely free of the undergarment. Extending above the line of connection 5 between the garments is a section 6 that is common to both and may. be as plain or as ornamentally trimmed asv desired. Asingle set of shoulder straps 7 is connected to this section or trimming an constitutes supporting means for both garments.
In order that the upper portion of the to the wearer, means are-provided for con- .prising a ment adapted to be properly fitted.
of section 6. Means are also provided for contracting the lower portion of the corset cover or camisole substantially at the waist line, this means in the present embodiment "being shown as a drawstring or 'ribbon 9 slidably mounted. in the lower portion of the outer garment 4.
It" will be clear that this article of manufacture is one that can be easily applied to and removed from the wearer, providing a comfortable garment that will maintain at all tlmes its proper position. -A single set of SllO'llldBIWStI'iLPS serves to support both garments, and the trimming is common to both, thereby materially reducing the cost. The means8-9 serve to properly fit both garments to the wearer, and it will be ob-' vious that the outer garment by reason of its attachment solely at the top, will permit the corset to be placed in position and removed with ease. In connection with this combination garment, a brassieire may be worn if desired. This brassiere may be interposed between the two and detachably secured or mounted by any suitable means, or in any manner desired, or if preferred may be Worn beneath the undervest.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the tages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction, may-be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- Apparel of the character set forth, comloose body covering under-garextend from the bust to the legs, the lower end thereof being substantially tapered and closed at its apex with leg openings on opposite sides thereof, a corset cover garment surrounding the upper portion and secured at its upper end to the upper end of the garment, common trimming for both garments. extending above the line of connection of said garments, common shoulder straps for both garmentsconnected to the upper ends there,-
of, means carried by the lower portion 0]. the corset cover garment to contract the same about the under garment substantially at the Waist line of the wearer, andebody encircling means substantially at the juncture of the garments and independent of the shoulder straps and passing beneath'the SARAH N. LEOPARD.
