1 Claim.
The present invention relates to a brassire which is designed for use particularly by women having large busts and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of this character embodying a novel construction and arrangement for supporting the busts.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a brassire which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, attractive in appearance, comfortjable and which may be manufactured at low cos All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a brassire constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the same applied.
Figure 2 is a view in rear elevation, showing the brassire applied.
Figure 3 is a detail view in elevation showing one end portion of the brassire with the body encircling strap thereon.
Figure 4 is a detail view in elevation showing the means immediately adjacent the forward ends of the shoulder straps for connecting the body encircling straps thereto.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that the embodiment of the present invention which has been illustrated comprises a body 1 of suitable material, said body being preferably formed to provide bust receiving pockets 2. Shoulder straps 3 are secured, as by stitching, at their ends, to the front and rear portions of the body 1.' Closely adjacent to where the shoulder straps 3 join the front of the body 1, eyes or the equivalents thereof are secured, as at 4. This is clearly illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings.
Secured to the ends of the body 1 are waist encircling straps 5 having secured on their free end portions hooks 6 for detachable engagement with the eyes 4. Of course, any suitable fasteners may be provided in lieu of the eyes 4 and the hooks 6, such as buttons or snap fasteners.
To apply the brassire, the body 1 is positioned in the usual manner with the straps 3 passing over the shoulders of the wearer, as clearly seenV in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. The straps 5 are crossed in back and brought around the waist beneath the busts and said straps are then re-crossed and extend upwardly and are connected, at their free ends, with the eyes 4 by engaging the hooks 6 in said eyes.
It will thus be seen that the straps 5,'in addition to providing securing means for retaining the body 1 around the body of the wearer, also constitute bust supports. Further, the straps 5 have their free ends secured at a point immediately adjacent the forward ends'o-f the shoulder straps 3 of the garment. If desired, the bust supporting straps 5 may be secured directly to the shoulder straps. 3 by simply mounting the elements 4 or the shoulder straps.
By reason of this particular construction and arrangement, the weight of the busts which is supported by the straps 5 is transmitted directly to shoulder straps 3, thereby preventing disarrangement of the body 1 and assuring maximum comfort to the wearer.
It is believed that the many advantages of a brassire constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment ofy the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed ist- A brassire comprising a body, shoulder straps Y connected, at their ends, to the body, and waist encircling straps connected, at one end, to the ends of the body, and at their other ends to the body at a point immediately adjacent the forward ends of the shoulder straps, said straps being crossed at the back and extending around the waist beneath the busts of the wearer and further being re-crossed between the busts of the CAROLINE GUDEMAN.
