UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VADE HAMPTON DU BOSE, OF LEON JUNCTION, TEXAS.
HARNESS ATTACH MENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,983, dated September 13, 1887.
Application fi] ed J une 18, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
-Be it known that I, WADE HAMPTON DU BOSE, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Leon Junction, in the county of Coryell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in harness attachments or buckles; and it consists in the detail construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In t-he accompanying drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention, and Figs. 2 and 3 are plan views of parts thereof.
The object of this invention is to provide suitable means for securing the end of a trace or tug of a horses harness, while greatly adding to the appearance of the harness, all of which will be apparent from the construction herein described, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
In carrying out my invention I provide a pad or piece of leather, A, in one end of which is formed an oblong hole or aperture, a, the other end being provided with an aperture, a', beveled on the inner portion of its outer circumference, as shown in Fig. 3.
B is the buckle-frame, the sides of which slightly curve and are connected at their topmost portions by a crosspiece, b, and a short distance from this crosspiece is a cross-bar, b', whereon is pivotally secured the ordinary tongue, b.
Projecting from the rear end of the frame of the buckle B is a loop, C, the inner end of which is made integral with or is part of said buckle-frame, the outer end of said loop being beveled and provided with a small lug orprojection, d.
D is a securing-plate through an oblong aperture in the forward end of which pro Serial No. 241,768. (No model.)
jects the tongue b of the buckle, and in the rear end of this securingplate is formed an aperture or opening, d', into which opens an elongated slot, d, as shown. This securing plate projects under the upper'crossbar, b, of the buckle-frame and to within a short distance of the end of loop C. This loop C is secured to the under side of the securing-plate by pressing the beveled end of said loop under the plate, so as to cause thelug or projection d to enter the opening or aperture d' and then pass into the elongated slot d, the same being held in the proper position by means of the beveled end of said loop. The trace or tug E is passed up through the hole or aperture a of the pad A, and after being passed through the buckle-frame the tongue b is passed through any one of the apertures of the trace or tug, after which the end of said trace or tug is passed under the upper crosslpiece, b, of the frame.
I claim as my invention- 1, The hereindescribed buckle or harness attach ment, comprising the pad having apertured ends, the buckle-frame, the loop projeeting therefrom having a beveled end provided with a lug or projection, the securingplate having apertured ends, and the trace or tug, all substantially as shown and described.
2. The hereindescribed combination, with the pad, of the buckleframe, the securingplate, and the loop secured to said plate, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
3. The herein-described combination, with the pad and the bucklefranle, of the loop secured to said fratrie and having a beveled end provided with a lug or projection, and the long securing-plate having slotted ends, substatitially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WADE HAMPTON DU BOSE.
