Description

, (No Model.)
P. w. COROORAN.
H'AME CLIP.
No. 367,787. Patented Aug.. 9; 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK W. CORGORAN, OFSENEOA, ILLINOIS.
HAME-CLIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,787, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed June 11, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK XV. CORCORAN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Sen-.
eca, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful-Improvements in Hallie-Clips; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make an improvement inthe end clips of harness, which may be fastened by the same screw that holds the re-enforeing spring to the outside of the hame, and at the same time assist in holding said spring -band securely down in its proper position. 7
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side, elevation showing my invention applied; Fig. 2, a detail perspective View of my improved clip, and Fig. 3, a detail view of an independent loop.
In the drawings, A represents the hame provided with the re-enforcing spring-band B.
O is my improved clip, formed of a metal plate folded on a curve to make the bearing 0, in which may easily turn the round cross-bar d of the strap-holder D, the latter being provided at the ends of said bar dwith the ears d, which are of greater diameter than said bearing. The.clip G is thus made to have an upper arm, 0, and a lower arm, 0. Between the two passes the wedge-shaped end of the hame A, while on the upper arm, 0, rests the spring end or" the re-enforoing band B. The upper arm, 0, is constructed with a loop, 0
above the fastening-bolt, and a loop, 0, below thesaid bolt, as well as'ncar the end of the band B. This bolt E has a nicked head and a thread on its end, so that when passed through the countersunk hole b. in the band and a corresponding transverse hole in the hame A it will screw intothe nut-h ole c in the lower arm, 0 The clip-plate, being made of spring metal, is drawn closely about and made to hug the sides of the wedge'end of the hame, while the end of band B, being locked tightly to the clip, must be rigidly heldto the frame with it. I thus fasten in a very secure way both the clip and band to the hame byasingle screw, so that it will wear for a long time. \Vhen, however, it becomes necessary to put on a new clip, it may be done in a moment by withdrawing the screw, removing. the old clip, inserting the new one, and again applying the screw. My invention will be a saver of both labor and expense to those who employ hames on their horses.
The clip-loops may be solid and integral with the body of the clip, like the loop 0 or open on top, like loop 0, or separate and independent, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A hame-clip provided with two spring arms, c c", and two loops, 0 c", said arms having holes for a screw, substantially as shown, whereby it may be used in the, manner described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PATRICK IV. :COROORAN.
