UNITED STATES 'PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK P. KEMP, OF OONTOOOOK, NET HAMPSHIRE.
H ITCHI'NG-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,848, dated December 2, 1890.
Application led April l, 1890.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK P. KEMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Contoocook, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitching-Straps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the `invention is to provide means in connection with a bitching-strap whereby the same may be passed around a tree or a post and iirmly secured thereon without being liable to slip down.
The invention will be readily understood by reference to the following specification and claim, and to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, of which- Figure l shows one portion of a strap to which my improved attach ment (shown in section) is applied, whereby the strap may be connected to a tree or post. Fig, 2 is an enlarged elevation of my improved attachment, and Fig. 3 represents the same in plan View.
The device consists of a casting A, formed of some suitable metal or malleable iron, hav ing an internal passage from end to end, (designated at ce) through which the hitchin g-strap is introduced, and having a hook a formed upon one of its sides near one end, which, in connection with a spring B, secured by rivets or screws h to said slide or casting A, having its free end resting upon` the hook a', serves the purpose of an ordinary harness-snap. The chamber or passage a is made larger than is required for the thickness ot the strap D for the admission of a thin metal plate or Serial No. 346,195. (No model.)
`bushing C, the ends of which project slight-ly at the ends of the casting or slide A, and are bent up, as at c, so as to hold the same in its proper position. This plate or bushing C may be pressed sufiiciently hard upon a strap D by means of a thumb-screw A', threaded to a perforation formed in one side of the slide A, to hold said slide A at any point desired upon said strap, and by securing a suitable ring E to one end of the strap D, and placing that end of said strap around a post or tree, and thel said ring E within the hook a, the said slide A may be adjusted upon the strap until the latter tightly clasps the post or screw A.
Having described myimprovement, what I claim is- The combination, with a metallic slide for hitchingstraps provided with a thumb-screw, and a metallic bushing interposed between said screw and one side of the strap for clamping the same to a strap at various points, of a hook projecting therefrom near one end, and a spring secured to Said slide having its free end bearing against the inner end of said hook, the same forming a harness-snap, substantially for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
FRANK P. KEMP.
