Claims.
. This invention relates to a device for containing and displaying flowers and more particularly relates to a floral aquarium.
An object of this invention is to'provide a floral display device whichincludes means for readily mounting flowers in an inverted glass bowl filled with water which means includes a clamping member which will hold. the flowers in a substantially erect position.
A further object of this invention is to pro-.
vide novel clamping means which will readily engage and hold flowers in an upright position without crushing the stems of the flowers. I
Still another object of the inventon resides in the provision of a flower display device'having suitable means for connecting an inverted glass bowl filled with water to a base so as to prevent leakage of the water.
These, together with the various ancillary object of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this flower display device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:
Figure 1 is a sectional view as taken along one of the diameters of the floral display device comprising the presentinvention; and
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the clamping means used in the present invention to support the flowers in an upright position.
With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral It generally designates the flower frame comprising the present invention. In particular the invention consists of a base ['2 which may be made from any suitable material such as themosetting plastics, or the like, which is provided with an upstanding peripheral flange [4 of cylindrical shape which is internally threaded as at It.
Positioned within the confines of the flange I4 is a gasket [8 formed from rubber or suitable resilient plastic material. A glass bowl 28 formed of a suitable transparent synthetic material or preferably of glass is positioned on the base [2 with its cylindrical neck portion 22 having threads 24 thereon in threaded engagement with the flange l4.
In order to secure flowers such as those indicated at 26 within the glass bowl 20, there is provided a clamping means which includes a cylindrical holding member 28 having a flange 30 thereon. In press fit engagement with the connecting the legs 38 and 40.
flange 3i) and the cylindrical member 28 is a disk 32 for enlarging the bearing surface of the cylindrical member28 so as to provide stability to the clamping means. Extending through the cylindrical member 28 is a rectangular aperture 34 within which a U-shaped member 36 is positioned. The member 36 includes legs 38 and t0, the leg 38 overlying the upper surface of the member 28 while the leg 40 is slidingly engaged within a recess. 42 formed in .the member 28. A set screw M is threadedly engaged in the side wall of the member 28 for engagement with the. central connecting portion 46 The stems of the flowers 28 are positioned within the recess 34 and by action of the set screw 44 which is provided with a knurled 'head48, the U-shaped member 35 may be driven into clamping engagement with the flowers 26; In operation, once the flowers have been positioned within the aperture 34 and have been clamped by actuation of the set screw 44, the glass bowl 20 may be fllled and the flowers together with the clamping means positioned therein using due care. Then, the portion of the stems of the flowers which extend below the bottom of the member 28 may be readily cut away in order to permit the clamping means to set firmly on the gasket [8 after the device has been assembled. Then it is merely necessary to screw the base i2 onto the neck portion of the bowl 20 and then carefully overturn the entire device so as to set the bowl 20 in an upside-down position. The clamping means being heavier than the flowers will settle and come to rest on the gasket I8. Thus, there will be assembled a luxurious ornament which may be used in homes, restaurants, hotels or the like.
Since from the foregoing the construction and advantages of this floral display device is readily apparent, further description is believed to be unnecessary.
However, since numerous modifications will readily occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawings, it is not intended to limit the invention to the precise embodiment shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be readily resorted to which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A flower support comprising a flat base and clamp means mounted on said base for engaging having a radially extending recess adjacent the lower end thereof communicating with said axial recess, a U-shaped clamp plate including upper and lower legs interconnected by a web portion, said web portion being vertically disposed in said axial recess, the'upper leg bearing on the upper end of said holding member and said radial recess slidably receiving said lower leg, and means carried by said holding member for retaining said clamp plate in adjusted position in said holding member, said base constituting a bearing surface for said clamp means.
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said means includes a headed set screw threaded through the annular wall of said holding member, the free end of said set screw being disposed within said axial recess and bearing on said web 7 portion;
'3. A flower support comprising a fiat base, a boss mounted centrally on said base and extending vertically therefrom, said boss having a vertical recess therein for receivingfiower stems therein and having a radially extendingrecess at the lower end thereof, a channel shaped plate disposed in said vertical recess with one leg thereof overlyingthe upper endof saidlboss and the other leg thereof being slidably disposed in said radial- 1y extending recess and means carried by said 7 member having a central aperture therethrough and a recessed portion in the undersurface thereof surrounding said aperture, a cylindrical boss disposed in said aperture and projecting upwardly therefrom, said base including an annular flange at its lower end seating in said recessed portion limiting upward movement of the boss, said boss having an axial opening therethrough, a plate longitudinally disposed in said axial opening and having flanges overlying the upper and lower ends of said boss, adjusting means extending through the side wall of said boss and contactingsaid plate for adjustably varying the spacing of the plate from the side walls or the axial opening.
'5. A flower holding member comprising a cylin-- V drical'boss'having a rectangular axial bore therethrough, a channel shaped plate disposed within said bore, said plate including a web extending longitudinally within said bore and upper and lower flanges respectively overlying the upper and lower end of said boss, said boss having a side wall bore communicating with s'aid axial open-.
boss for adjustably varyin lthe spacing of the 7 ing, an adjusting screw in said side wall bore contacting said plate for adjustably varying the spacing of the web from the opposing walls of the axial'bore and-an annular flange on the lower end of saidboss constituting a flat baselfor the same.
