P; W. GAIN. REIN HOLDER.
No. 578,208. Patented Mar. 2, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK W. lCAIN, OF ELKHORN, WISCONSIN.
REIN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,208,.dated March 2, 1897.
Application filed J'une 10, 1896. Serial N0. 594,990. v(No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. GAIN, of Elkhorn, in the county of Walworth and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hitch-strap holders.
The object of the invention is to provide a hitch-strap holder strong and durable in construction and composed of a minimum number of parts.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hitch-strap holder which will be an ornament to the harness and one that can also be used for either single or double rigging.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, more fully described hereinafter and particularly7 pointed outin the claims.
. saddle.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l shows my invention in use, dotted lines showing the strap held by my improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail front elevation of my invention, showing a strap in section held therein.
Referring to the drawings by letter, a is a post having screw-threads b at, its lower end, adapted to pass through the dat curved spring c and screwed into the saddle or back-pad and thereby tends to strengthen the saddle or back-pad.
When I use my improvement as a terretring, I remove the ordinary Jferret-ring and screw my device in its place.
Post @may be made of any desired design which should have a iiat surface where the spring rests against it for the purpose of securely holding the rein or line.
In constructing my device I pass the screwthreaded end or reduced portion of the post through the iiat spring into the back-pad or saddle, thereby holding all the parts in position and at the same time strengthening the When it is desired to hitch a horse, the strap is withdrawn from between the spring cand the post a and of course fastened vtwo witnesses.
to any convenient place. When the hitchstrap is not in use, itis carried between the spring and the post. Ordinarily when a team has stopped the driver of business wagons rangements of parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I do not wish to limit-myself to the exact construction herein setforth, but consider myself entitled to all such changes as fall within the scope of my invention.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a rein or line holder the combination of a post having threads on its lower end adaptedto screw into the saddle or back-pad,
the curved spring securely held between said post and saddle and adapted to tightly press against the upper portion of the post, substantially as described.
2. A rein-holder comprising a post having a screw-threaded end formed integral with the lower portion thereof and a flat curved spring secured to the lower portion thereof, and having its upper portion curved so as to form a loop, and the opposite free end of said spring to bear against said post, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the saddle or backpad of a rein-holder secured thereto comprising a post provided with a screw-threaded end formed integral therewith and adapted to enter said back-pad or saddle, a flat curved spring leaving an opening in one of its ends so as to t said screw-threaded end and rest between said saddle or back-pad and the bottom of the post, and having its opposite free ends curved to form a loop and to bear against the post, for the purpose set forth.
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of FRANK W. GAIN.
