G. s. MOGK. REIN GUIDE Patented'Jan. 22, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT O EIoE.
GEORGE SAMUEL MOOK, OF LEBANON, KENTUCKY.
RElN-GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,894, dated January 22, 1895.
Application filed October 19, 1894:. Serial No. 526-356- (No model.) I
T0 at whom zit may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE SAMUEL MOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Marion and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Guides; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rein guides; and the object of my invention is the provision of a practical device of this character which will hold and'guide the reins; which can be easily applied or detached when desired and which will be inexpensive of production.
The invention consists of a rein guide embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device applied. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view through one of the shafts to show the construction of the draw irons and scouring end of the guide, and Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the device detached.
In the drawings A designates a pair of shafts or thills connected by the usual cross bar and in connection with which I use my rein holder and guide. To the under side of the bolts D, and serve to hold the ends of the rein holder in the recesses or sockets E, provided therefor in the shafts.
The curved or segmental spring metal strip F of the rein guide has the inward extending ears or lugs G, which when the guide is in position spring into the recesses and are held therein and cannot become accidentally detached but may be removed when necessary. To the upper side of the curved part of the guide is attached the plate H, having the central depressed portion J, which is secured to the curved cross piece and is also formed with the arms K, having the bent ends L, and the arms form two rein receiving loops or spaces M and the spring action of the arms prevent the reins from slipping out of place.
The reins can be easily slid under the spring arms and remain in the loops and will not possibly fall down upon the animal. The spring curved part can be easily applied and detached and the draw irons act in conjunction to hold the curved part and also serve to strengthen the shafts at their inner ends.
I claim The combination of the curved or segmental spring rein holder having rein holding loops on the upper side and having the inward extending lugs at the free ends, the shafts having the recesses to receive the said lugs, and the thill irons clamping said lugs in place and extending to the ends of the shafts and provided with the thill eyes, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' GEORGE SAMUEL MOOK.
Witnesses:
