Description

(No Model.)
J.- D. SHURMON. REIN HOLDER.
'No. 447,981. Patented Mar. 10, 1891.
W JQ7 M I UNITED STATES ATE-NT OFFICE.
JAMES D. SHURMON, OF PAINT ROCK, TEXAS.
RElN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 447,981, dated March 10 '1891.
Application filed June 25, 1890. Serial No. 356,679. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES D. SHURMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paint Rock, in the county of Concho and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein Holders and Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1
My invention has relation to rein-holders; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a rein-holder of simple and inexpensive construction that may be readily attached to or detached from the dash-board of a vehicle.
A further object is to construct the reinholder of one piece of metal, whereby a greater degree of strength is attained for the holder and no danger of any of the parts becoming loosened and lost, as is the case with a majority of rein-holders now upon the market.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a rein-holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing my invention attached to the dash-board of a vehicle.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals and letters indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, 1 designates my improved rein-holder, which, as stated before, is constructed of one piece of metal, and to readily allow of the same being attached to the dash-board of a vehicle the main body portion 2 is provided upon its rear face with ears 3, which are, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, formed close together, their meeting faces 4 being provided with vertical concavities 5, by means of which alarger bearing-surface is provided for the ears 3, which are adapted to encircle one leg 6 of the iron frame-work of the dash-board.
held in its adjusted position upon the iron frame of the dash-board, the ears 3 are provided with registering eyes 7, one of which is screw-threaded, through which are passed a securing-bolt 8.
Dependent from the main body portion 2, and made integral therewith, is a tongue 9, which is bent upward, as at 10, to form a spring portion 11, the inner face 12 of which runs parallel with the face of the main body portion 2. At the upper free end of the spring portion 11 it is given a slight outward bend, as shown, which enables the driver to readily place the reins in the holder.
The manner of attaching and using'my improved rein-holder, taken in connection with the above description and accompanying drawings, may be briefly described as follows: \Vhen it is desired to attach the device to the iron frame of the dash-board, the ears 3 are spread slightly apart and the vertical concavities made to engage the dash-board iron. The bolt 8 is then placed through the eyes 7, and by turning the bolt 8 draw the ears together and tightly secure the holder to the dashboard.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a rein-holder, the combination, with the body portion 2, provided upon its rear face with perforated ears 3, formed close together and provided with vertical concavities to fit the dash-board frame, and having eyes 7, one of which is screw-threaded, of the dependent spring-tongue 1 1, made integral with the main body portion 2, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aitix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES D. SHURMON.
Witnesses:
