SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 360,564, dated April 5, 1887.

Beit known that I, Il/IARY E. CORY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of \Vayne, State of Indiana, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Ladies Sleeve-Protectors, of which the following is a specification, refer ence being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to that class of sleeveprotectors intended to preserve the dress from injury by perspiration at the armpits of the wearer.

My invention consists in the parts herein described and claimed, constituting an absorbent sleeve-protector which is fitted to and wornupon the person and adapted to be worn with out change when the dresses are changed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a back elevation of my improved protector as it appears fitted to the person. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the shield of the protector with the bands in perspective, showing the opening in the shield in which the absorbent substance is in serted. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the protector with its bands in position.

In Fig. 1, A represents the outlines of the upper portion of the person. a a are shoulder-bands. I) b are arm-bands,in which elastic sections 6 b are inserted. a c are shields fitting closely under the armpit, 0 covering the under side of the arm, and c that part of the person with which the under side of the arm comes in immediate contact, said shields being provided with shoulder-bands a a, armbands I) b, and a horizontal band, d, extending across the back, in which is inserted an elastic section, d, to make itadjustable and co1npensating.

The shields C are oval in their outline and are composed fof two pieces of suitable material, c and c, Fig. 3, joined together at a at an obtuse angle, the body being composed of the fronts and lining, the two forming a rcceptacle, in which is placed fine sponge or other suitable absorbent substance adapted to take up and hold profuse perspiration, and so arand cleansed and replaced or other similar material substituted. For this purpose an opening, 0, Fig. 2, is made in the lining, by which the sponge x is inserted between the lining and the fronts c and a, when the opening is closed by strings i 1 the whole forming a sort of cushion constituting the body of the shield O.

The shields G C are secured to the person by the shoulder-bands a a, the arm-bands b b, the band cl across the back, and by suitable single straps across the front arranged so as to be fastened to each other by tying or otherwise at lengths, as may be necessary to insure a proper adjustment.

Other forms of straps and bands may be used to fix and retain the shields in position on the person and be within the scope of my invention, as the object of my invention is to produce a protector for the sleeves of ladies dresses adapted to be fixed to the person while dressed and capable of being worn with different dresses without changing its adjustments, arranged so as to take up and absorb the perspiration by means of porous and absorbent matter placed in or upon the parts coming in contact with the armpits, and also so arranged as to allow the absorbent material used to be removed, cleansed, and replaced or other inserted.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The bandsa, passing over the weareflsshoulders, the bands passing around the arms, and the band d, connecting the two shields O, in combination with said shields, each consisting of two parts, a 0, having a pocket, 6, filled with sponge, and cords 2', whereby said pocket may be opened and closed, substantially as set forth.
