PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. MOORES, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
GlRTH-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357,684, dated February 15, 1887.
Application filed June 4, 1865. Serial No. 161,073.
(No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE W. MooREs, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Girth-Rngs; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the let.
ters of reference marked thereon.
This invention is a girthring of improved construction. based upon the ring covered by my Letters Patent No. 310,144, dated December 30, 1884., as will be hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a front view of my improved girthvring; Fig. 2, a sectional` view; Fig. 3, a sectional view with the girth in place; Fig. 4, an end view, and Figs. 5 and 6 views illustrating the manner of using the improved ring.
To enable others skilled in the art to make my improved ring, I will proceed to describe fully the construction of the same.
A represents the ring or frame or D-shaped frame, consisting of a curved upper portion having parallel side bars, a a, united below by transverse bars ct a in the manner'described in the patent before referred to. The upper portion, a2, however, it will be observed, is bent outward from the normal plane of the ring or frame in such manner that the point X, which'supports the free end of the buckletongue, is removed some distance from the normal plane, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The lower transverse bar, as, is also modified in construction by bending out the center of the same at the point X', Figs. l and 3, by which means the proper space is afforded for the hinged end of the tongue.
tongue itself is prevented from resting on the transverse bar.
By means of the bent portion in the lower transverse bar, a3, the proper space is afforded for the hinged end of the tongue.
The base portion may be a ring or frame, or a square metal piece, or a piece of any other proper form. It is possible by the employment of this device to unite many parts of the harness without sewing.
Having thus fully described my invention, what-I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
IThe improved girth ring orframe, having the parallel bars a a, forming the lower portion of the frame, united below by the transverse bars a a, and having the vertical bend in the portion a2, the lateral bend in the lower transverse bar, a3, and the buckle-tongue B, as described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 22d day of May, A. D. 1885.
GEO. W. MOORES.
