Description

A. G. LANDON 8: B. DECKER. Trace-Buckle.
No. 204,342. Patented May 28,1878.
M gjmflg /w UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ASA G. LANDON AND BRENTON DECKER, OF TROY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,342, dated May 28, 1878; application filed December 19, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we. ASA G. LANDON and BRENTON DECKER, of Troy, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Buckles; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Our invention relates to the construction of a trace-buckle, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of our improved trace-buckle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detailed view of a part thereof.
H H represent two parallel side bars, of substantially the curved form shown, connected by cross-bar B and by a top crossplate, 0, at the front end. At the back end is formed a loop, E, and on the sides are the side loops L L, all being cast in one piece, and forming the body of the buckle. From the under side of the cross-plate 0 projects a tongue, D, at or near the center, as shown in Fig. 2.
F is a center cross-plate, provided at each end with a downwardly-projecting ear, a, and through these passes a rod, I, for pivoting said plate in the frame between the side loops L. A tongue, A, projects upward from the center of the plate F. The ears to a, at the ends of the plate F, have at their forward ends, on their outer sides, lugs b b, which enter recesses a in the side bars H H, to prevent said plate and tongue A from turning backward.
The end of the trace is passed under the back loop E, over the tongue A, and under the tongue D, said tongues being passed. through holes in the trace, thus forming a double fastening for the same which cannot come accidentally loose. It is, however, easily 1oosened,when desired, by pushing the trace forward, which throws the plate F and its tongue A forward and downward on the rod I, thereby releasing said tongue from the trace, when the trace can easily be slipped off from the tongue D.
When the trace is in position in the buckle it is held straight without any bending of the same, which, when permitted, will soon crack and break the trace.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a trace-buckle, the combination of the pivoted plate F, having tongue A and ears a a, with side lugs b b and the side bars H, having recesses 00, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the frame H, loops E L, cross-plate G, with tongue D, and the pivoted plate F, with tongue A and ears a a, having stops b b, substantially as and for the purposes hereiu set forth.
ASA GEORGE LANDON. BRENTON DECKER.
