Description

D. D. COHEN. Bale-Tie.
No. 2185213. Patented Aug. 19,1879.
WITNESSES ATTORNEYS NFETERS, PHDTO-LIYMOGRAPNER. WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID D. COHEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-Tl ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218.713, dated August 19, 1879; application filed r June 25, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that I, DAVID D. COHEN, of New York, in the county of'New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bale-Ties and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figurel of the drawings is a representation of a perspective of my bale-tie. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a plan view, of the same.
This invention relates to bale-ties; and it consists in the novel construction of the buckle and fastening-lug, as hereinafter specified.
A of the drawings represents my buckle, which consists of the bar a, arranged for permanent attachment to one end of the hoop, the cross stud or bar B, the large opening 0, inclosed by the sides of the buckle, (marked D,) and the bottom bar, G, holding the fasteninglug F.
That portion which extends It will be observed that on each side of the base of my fasteninglug is a circular recess, y. This construction is designed to co-operate with the device next mentioned, to aid the lug F in holding the opposite end of the band in security.
The large opening in my buckle, extending from the cross-bar B to the base, is constructed in wedge shape, gradually converging downward, as shown, and finally terminating-in the recesses y. Within this wedge-shaped opening and recesses the free end of the hoop is gradually drawn down, and by wedging them relieves the strain upon the fastening-lug and prevents accidents by the breakage thereof.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The buckle herein described, having the wedge-shaped opening 0, recesses y, and upwardly and forwardly projecting fastening-lug F, constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
2. In a bale-tie, the buckle herein described, having the wedge-shaped opening 0, recesses 31, and upwardly and forwardly projecting fastening-lug F, and the bar a, with its connect- ,inghars D placed at an angle with the main body of the buckle, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence ;of two witnesses.
DAVID D. ooHEN.
