UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
BENTON ELLIOTT, OF ELLSWORTH, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN STRING-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,857, dated September 10, 1878; application filed February 25, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENTON ELLIOTT, of Ellsworth, in the county of Pierce and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and 1mproved String-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved string-holder, taken on line a: a: in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a holder for strings used in tying packages or bags, and for holding shoe-strings, so that one at a time may be removed from a bunch without snarling those that remain.
In the drawings, A is a base-plate, having a square boss, b, -to opposite sides of which two springs, c, are secured by a rivet.. The free ends of the springs, swhich are made convex, are in contact with each other. A square sleeve, (Z, is loosely fitted to the springs, and. is provided with thumb-pieces d d, which en- .the strings between the free ends of the springs c. The sleeve is then allowed to press against the strings, and the strings maybe drawn one by one from between the springs 0 without snarling those that remain.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcent- A string-holder consisting of a base-plate,- A, the springs 0, having convex ends, and a spring-acted sleeve, d, combined substantially as herein shown and described.
BENTON ELLIOTT.
