OHARLES R. MILLER, OF LANSINGBURG, NEW YORK.
STRAP-PLATE FOR HARNESS.
SPECIPICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,996, dated November 23, 1886.
Application filed June 25, 1885, Serial No. 169,727. (No model.)
at each side and one end of the connecting plate, with the breeching-strap passed through the end eye and returned back to buckle.
To improve this device is the object of my invention, to accomplish which I formthe attachment-plate with an eye on each side, one of which connects with the girth-strap and the other with the pad-strap, omitting the end strap-eye, and using in place of the latter two stationary buckle-form loops that are each upcast from the plate-body on a bevel extending outwardly and upwardly toward the plate ends, with a stationary bucklepin placed between said bevels to hold the inserted breeching-strap. I
Accompanying this specification, to form a part of it, there are two plates of drawings containing five figures illustrating my invention, with the same designation of parts by letter-reference used in all 'ofthem. Of these illustrations, Figure 1 shows a perspective of the plate with the side of it to which the trace attaches turned toward the side, and shown with the trace removed. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the plate with that side of it to which the breeching-strap attaches shown'as turned toward the sight; and Fig. 3 shows the plate in the same position it is shown at Fig. 2, but with the breeching-strap connected. Fig. 4
is a view of the under side of the plate, with the trace shown as riveted to the plate thereat. Fig. 5is a section taken centrally and longitudinally through the plate, the trace, and the by'letter-reference, and the function of the 5 parts is described as follows:
The letter P indicates the body of the plate,
and E E st-rapeyes formed at each side, one of which is used to connect with a girth-strap and the other with the pad-strap. The letters G designate raised portions produced in the under side of the plate inside of the eyes to inclose the sides of the trace T, which latter is riveted to the plate, so as to connect the two, with the trace. located between the raised sides G G.
The letters B designate two buckle-form loops that are upcast from the plate-body, and beveled toward the plate ends as they extend upwardly.
The letter P designates a buckle-pin, which is attached to the plate so as to be situated therein between said upcast loops.
The letter S designates the breechingstrap as passed under said buckle-loops B, and secured therein by the pin P The letter R indicates a ring on the strap S, for connection with the breeching proper.
The trace-strap T, vbeing secured to the under side of the plate P, is made adj ustable as to length by the chains which' connect it with the ends of the whiffietree, and the breech ngstrap S is made adjustable as to length by means of the buckle-connection it makes with the plate.
As thus improved the connection-plate P is adapted to make a better connection with the breeching-strap, and less leather is required to make the connection.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is,
The plate P, made with the side strap-eyes,
E E the trace-guides G G, the upcast bev eled buckle-loops B B, aud'the intermediate pin, 1?, substantially as shown and described. Signed at Troy, New York, this 27th day of May, 1885, in thepresence of the two witnesses whose names are hereto written.
