Description

(No Model.)
J. P. REYBURN. TUG.
No. 430,254. Patented June 17, 1890.
N Q Y "IVE/V701? WIT/W58 UNITED STATES JAMES P. REYBURN,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NORMAL, ILLINOIS.
Tue;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,254, dated June 17, 1890.
Application filed March 6, I890.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES P. REYBURN, of Normal, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tugs and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
My invention relates to improvements in tugs, the object of the same being to provide a trace having devices by means of which the same can be lengthened or shortened without the use of hame-tugs, trace-buckles, hooks, links, slots in trace, or pressure-bearing of any description, and leavethe back and bellybands at their proper places when said adjustments are being made.
A further object is to provide means for adjusting the back and belly bands backward or forward as required to fit either large or small horses.
With the above ends in view, my invention consists in the certain features of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is a section on as as of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the pin.
A represents a metal box made in two sec tions B and O. The lower section B is-much deeper than the upper section 0, and is adapted to receive the traces D. The box A is provided with the perforations E, which pass Serial No. 342,887. (No model.)
through the bottom of the upper section 0. The trace D is also provided with holes F, adapted to register with perforations E in the box, and are adapted to receive the pin G, which is headed, as shown. The trace may be lengthened or shortened by varying the length thereof in connection with the box. A secreting-strap G is secured to the upper section tain the pin in position and also cover the same from View. The free end of said strap is passed through the mortise I, by means of which the same is retained in position. The loop-strap K is riveted to said metal box A at one end and to the loops L at the other, thereby retaining the back and belly bands in their proper places while the trace is being adjusted, as described. It will of course be understood that the box may be used at either end of the trace.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a hame tug, the combination, with a metal box provided with a lower section to receive the trace, an upper section to receive a secreting-strap, said sections and trace being perforated, of apin engaging said perforations, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JAMES P. REYBURN.
