BUCKLE PLATE APPLICATION FILED JAN.29. I918.

BUCKLE-PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 27, 1918.
Application filed January 29, 1918. Serial No. 214,385.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE M. Fos'rnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Buckle-Plate, of which the following is a speciiication.
The subject of this invention is a buckle plate intended for use on belts, harness, or other places where buckles are used and plates or covers therefor are desirable.
The main object within the contemplation of the invention is the provision of a buckle plate which may be transferred from one buckle to another when desired;
Another object contemplated by the invention is the provision of means for detachably securing the plate to a buckle which will allow the parts of the buckle to assume their normal positions;
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a simple, durable, and efiicient buckle plate.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device, a fragment of the belt, to the buckle of which the plate is attached, being shown;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same as applied to the belt;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the plate;
Fig. a is a cross section on the line 4-4: of Fig. 3, a portion of a belt shown in place.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference An ordinary leather belt is indicated at 1 which is provided with a strap loop 2 and to which is attached a buckle 3 having a tongue 4.
The invention proper consists of a Copies or this patent may be obtained for :live
formed, preferably slightly curved plate 5 to one end of which the curved fingers 6 are attached. The fingers 6 extend rearwardly of the plate 5 and are curved to take around the forward cross bar of the buckle 3 and are spaced apart to permit the tongue to engage the cross bar of the buckle in its usual manner.
A bar or strip 7 extends transversely of the plate at the rear thereof and has its bent ends secured to the plate. This bar forms a loop for the reception of the end of the belt 1.
In practice, the cross bar of the buckle 3 is forced beneath the fingers 6 and the plate is thus detachably secured to the buckle. The belt may then be fastened in the usual way by passing the end of the belt through the buckle; inserting the tongue 4 in the proper aperture; then drawing the belt end through the loop formed by the strip 7 and then passing the belt end through the strap loop 2.
Having thus described the invention,what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patent, is
1. A formed plate, curved fingers extendinofrom one end of the plate, said fingers adapted to engage the cross bar of a buckle, and a strip secured to the back of the plate and forming a strap loop.
2. A formed plate, means at one end of the plate for detachably securing the plate to the cross bar of a buckle, and means secured to the plate for embracing a strap to secure the plate thereto.
3. A buckle plate, including a formed metallic plate, spaced, curved fingers extending rearwardly of one end of the plate and adapted to embrace the cross bar of a buckle and straddle the tongue, and a strip on the plate to embrace the strap and bind the plate in place upon the buckle.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE M. FOSTER. I
