To @ZZ whom t may cof/wem: p
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hannibal. in the county of Marion and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Belt Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buckles and has for its object the provision of a no-vel buckle for use upon belts, straps, and the like, whereby the ends of the straps may be secured vin a very eiiicient manner so as to positively -prevent any slipping, the con-A to install and use, highly eilicient in service,
and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be here` ina-fter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figwre 1 is a front elevation of the buckle in position upon a strap.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation. Figure 3 is a longitudinal section. Figure #l is a detail perspective view. Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown my buckle as comprising a body 10 which is preferably longitudinally curved, as shown, and which is formed with spaced parallel flanges. 11 at its edges, these ianges being formed of inclined slots 12 through which is slidably engaged a lock bar 13. This locking device is itself old and well known and I claim no novelty the rear side of the body. lThe tongue "15'v is bent -back,as shown at 17 and is then rebent, as shown at .18, Aso as to extend substantially parallel with the body 10 but oifset rearwardly with respect thereto. This tongue 15 thus constitutes a hook and ad- ]acent its junction with the body, it' is cut away at opposite sides todefine a constricted neck 19 upon which is of course formed the head 20 which is somewhat larger than the neck and which tapers to a substantial point 21. The belt or strap is formed with a hole 22 which is engaged upon this hook-like tongue whereby the buckle is held associated with the strap or belt.
In the use of the device, after the belt or Y strap is placed about the waist, in case it is designed for this purpose, or after it is i placed about anything else which it is desired to hold, the free end of the belt is inserted between the rear side of that end which is secured to the buckle andy passes between this second mentioned end and the I.
that the lock bar will be urgedinto the ends of the slots nearest the plate portion of the buckle, this of course resulting in a firm clamping action so that the greater the pull I tending to loosenthe belt the greater will be the clamping action of the'lock bar. Owingv to the fact that when the beltV is applied, both ends are in engagement, it will be seen that there will be a greater degree of fricfor it, though it is illustrated as forming*v tion tending to hold the parts together than in the ordinary construction.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will notdepart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
What is claimed is 1. A belt buckle comprising av body plate-like form provided at its edges with flanges formed with inclined slots,la lockbar slidable along said slots. tongues .formed on the ends of the body and bent backwardly with respect thereto and lying substantially parallel therewith, and a strap disposed against the rear side of the body with one end abuttingly engaging one tongue and formed at a point spaced from said end with 5 parallel flanges provided with inclined slots a lock bar slidable along said slots and tongues formed at the ends of the body, one tongue being bent back .upon itself vinto spaced parallel relation to the front of l0 the body to define an abutment .forthe free end of the strap7 andthe othertonguebeing offset rearwardly with respect to the body vand having a constricted neck portionand` a relatively large head terminating in a sub- 15 vstantial point, the .strap being formed with a hole through which said secondnarned tongue is disposed.
3. A belt buckle comprising .a plate like body formed at its sideedges-With spaced parallel flanges provided with inc-lined slots, a loc-k bar slidable along said slots, and tongues formed at the ends of the body, one
`tongue being bent back upon itself into spaced parallel relation to the front of the body to define anabutuient for -the free end of the strap and the other tongue being offset rearwardly Wit-h respect to the body and extending in the same direction as the first named tongue, the strap being formed with a hole through Which said second named tongue is disposed.
In testimony whereof I aiiixniy signature.
WILLIAM M. MYERS.
