GEORGE \V. MOORES, OF NEW' ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO MORRIS W. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,683, dated March 22, 1887.
Application filed September 21, 1886. Serial K0. 214,190. (No model.)
To all whom. it may concern..-
Be it known that I, GEORGE WV. Moonns, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Iniprovements in Buckie-Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to that class of devices employed for attaching together the different parts of harness in which a hook portion is combined with a buckle-frame, a divided bail, and a pivoted tongue; and it consists in a special construction of parts by means of which the pivoted tongue is adapted to form the hook portion of the device, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view a view of the buckle-hook alone; Fig. 2, an edge view of the same with the tongue in its closed position; Fig. '3, an edge view of the same with the tongue in its open position; Fig. 4, a sectional view in the line x at, Fig. 5; Fig. 5, a perspective View of the buckle-hook with the end of the trace in position; Fig. 6, a perspective view of the buckle-hook as applied to one of the hames of a harness for the purpose of holding the end of the trace.
To enable others skilled in the art to make my improved buckle-hook, I will proceed to describe fully the construction of the same.
1 represents the buckle-frame, of unusual construction, and 2 a divided bail of the same construction as those before employed in this class of devices, which bail is rigidly secured to the buckle-frame at the proper point in the manner well understood.
3 represents the tongue, which is pivoted to the front bar, 4, of the buckle-frame in any proper manner, but is preferably made witha wide base portion, as shown. This tongue 1s so bent that the portion adjacent to the pivotbearing forms a hook, which is adapted to engage with any proper base portion of the harness, such as the ring 5 of the hames, as shown in Fig. 6.
6 represents the end of the trace.
By means of this special form of bucklehook the trace may be attached directly to the harness, as shown in Fig. 6.
The construction of theharness is th us greatly simplified and the cost materially reduced Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A buckle-hook consisting of a rectangular frame having a tongue pivoted to one of its end bars, said tongue bent outward from said end bar to form a hook and returned longitudinally upon the frame to form the tongue, and having a divided loop, one section on each side bar of the buckle, substantially as described.
2. The buckle-hook described, consisting of the buckle-frame 1, having the divided bail 2, and the tongue 3, pivoted to the cross-bard of the frame, the tongue being bent to form the hook portion, as described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 13th. day of September, A. D. 1886.
GEO. W. MOORES.
