BUCKLE.
Specificationof Letters Patent.
Application filed Ju1y 13,1916.- Serial No. 109,154,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ARTHUR B. Liaisons and CLARENCE E. LAISURE, citizens of the United States, residing at Fairbury, in the county of Jefferson and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a buckle and has for its primary object the provision of a buckle especially adapted for connecting the reins of a double harness together, and so constructed that the buckle will not turn over or become positioned upside-down, obviating the danger. of the buckle from becoming caught in the harness or fly net.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a substantially rectangular frame to receive the main rein and having a substantially V-shaped member formed on one side thereof and located in a horizontal plane therewith to which the branch rein is secured, whereby the buckle will be prevented from turning over or upside-down.
A further object of this invention is to provide the side members of the frame curved downwardly intermediate their ends to position the fastening bar in a plane below the end members of the frame so that the main rein may be easily passed through the frame and maintain a substantially hori zontal plane through the frame.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a buckle of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
WVith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the descrip tion proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a buckle under efficiently fastens the frame 1 upon the main constructed in accordance with my invention and illustrating a main rein and branch rein attached thereto, and
F 2 is a perspective view of the buckle with the reins removed.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety a substantially rectangular frame, consisting of side members 2 which are curved downwardly intermediate their ends as illustrated at 3 and have formed thereon a transversely eX- tending fastening bar 4:, on which is formed an upwardly projecting lug 5. The side members 2 are connected at each end by flat end members 6, which are located in a plane above the fastening bar 4 so that a main rein 7 may first be passed under one of the end members 6 and over the fastening bar f allowing the lug 5 to pass through one of the openings in the main rein and then the other end member which rein.
A substantially V-shaped member 7 consisting of the leg portions 8 and 9 is formed upon one of the side members 2. The leg member 8 is of shorter length than the leg member 9 and has secured thereon a branch rein 10 and supports the branch rein 10 in a substantially horizontal plane with the main rein 7 and at right angles thereto, thus preventing the buckle from turning over or upside-down while in use, obviating the danger of the buckle catching into-the other parts of the harness or the fly net.
lVhile we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it will be understood that minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is A buckle comprising a pair of spaced side members extending downwardly intermediate their ends, flat end members connecting the side members at their ends, a cross bar formed on the downwardly ex tended portions of the side members so as to dispose said cross bar in a plane below the end members, a, lug on said cross bar to Patented Apr, 8, 1919,'
engage a rein, and a V-shaped member In testimony whereof I aflix my signature formed on the ends of one of the side men1- in presence of two Witnesses.
hers and having one leg portion'of a shorter s ARTHUR B LAISURE length than the other to dispose said leg 5 portion at a greater angle than the other leg CLARENCE LAISURE' portion to support a rein thereon at, an Witnesses: angle in relation to the rem carried by the JOHN R. LAIsUnE, cross bar. RUSSELL A. DAvm.
