Description

(No Model.)
J. W. GRISWOLD.
BARBED WIRE FENCE.
No. 465,641. Patented Dec. 22, 18:91.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WOOL GRISWOLD, OF TROY, NEW YORK.
BARBED-WlR-E FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,641, dated December 22, 1891. Application filed June 15, 1891. Serial No. 396,257. (No model.)
invented a new and useful Improvement in Barbed-fire Fences, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of wire fencing which is composed of a series of links, usually barbed; and it consists in the construction of said links and their combination to form a continuous fencing:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan View of my improved fencing. Fig. 2 is a side View, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Each link a 6 consists of a length of wire A, doubled or halved on itself to form at one end of said link the eye B. One end of the doubledover wire A is bent to form an eye 0. The other end of said doubled-over wire A is bent in the opposite direction to form an eye D. The two eyes 0 and D are placed side by side, as shown. The extremities E F of the Wire A cross between the parts of said wire and are sharpened and protrude therefrom, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to form barbs.
and cheaply made.
In uniting the links to form the fencing the eye B of one link, as 12, engages With the parallel eyes 0 D of the adjacent link a.
This fencing is strong, durable, and easily I claim- 1. A wire-fencing link composed of a length of wiredoubled to form a loop or eye B at one extremity of the link and having its ends bent over in relatively opposite directions to produce the eyes 0 D, the extremities E F of said wire being crossed between the parts thereof and protruding to form barbs.
2. A wire fencing composed of a series of enchained links, each link being composed of a length of wire doubled to form a loop or eye B at one extremity and having its ends bent over in relatively opposite directions to produce the eyes 0 D, the extremities E F of said wire being crossed between the parts thereof and protruding to form barbs, and the eyes 0 D of one link engaging with the eye 13 of the next adjacent link.
JOHN WOOL GRISWOLD.
