JOHN OOL GRIS\VOLD, OF TROY, NE\V YORK.
BAREED WlRE. FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,642, dated December 22, 1891.
Application filed June 15, 1891 Serial No. 396,258, (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, J OHN WooL GRIswoLD, of Troy, Rensselaer county, New York have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barbed-\Vire Fences, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of wire fencing which is composed of aseries of links, usually barbed; and it consists in theconstruction of said links and their combination to form a continuous fencing.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved wire fencing. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. Sis an end View of the link a, showing the parallel eyes 0 and I).
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Each link (a?) consists of a length of wire A, doubled or halved on itself to form at one end of said link the eye B. One end of the doubledover wire A is bent to form the eye O. The other end of the doubled-over wire A is bent in like manner to form the eye D. The two eyes 0 and D are placed side by side, as shown. The extremities E F of the wireA are locked or twisted together on one side of the main portion of the link a and are then bent outwardly to form barbs.
In uniting the links the eye B of one link, as l), engages with the eyes 0 D of the other link a.
This fencing is strong, durable, and easily and cheaply made.
I claini 1. A wire-fencing link composed of a length of wire doubled to form a loop or eye B at one extremity of the link and havingits ends bent over to form eyes O D, the extremities E F of said wire being locked or twisted to gether on one side of said link and pr0truding to form barbs.
2. A wire-fencing composed of a series of enchained links, each link being composed of a length of wire doubled to form aloop or eye 15 at one extremity of the link and having its ends bent over to form eyes C D, the eXtremi ties E F of said wire being locked or twisted together on one side of the link and protruding to form barbs, and the eye B of one link engaging with the eyes O D of the nextadjacent link.
JOHN WOOL GRISWOLD.
