(No Model.)
J; W. GRISWOLD. BARBED WIRE FENCE.
No; 465,643. Patented Dec. 22, 1891.
WITNESSES. llVl/E/VTU/i Arm/um,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WOOL GRISVVOLD, OF TROY, NEN YORK.
BARBED-WIRE FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,643, dated December 22, 1891.
Application filed June 15, 1891.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHNWOOL GRISWOLD, of Troy, Rensselaer county, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barbed-Wire Fences, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of Wire fencing which is composed of a series of links,
usually barbed; and it consists in the construction of said links and their combination to form a continuous fencing.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved fencing. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Each link a b consists'of a length of wire A, doubled or halved on itself to form at one end of said link the eye B. One end of the doubled-over wire A is bent to form the eye O. The other end of the doubled-over wire A is bent in like manner to form the eye D. The extremities E F of the wire A cross between the parts of said wire and each end is Wrapped around both parts of said link, the two ends protruding in relatively opposite directions to form barbs. It will be observed that by this construction the parallel parts of the link are bound together by the wrapped Serial No. 396,259. (No model.)
ends E F of the parallel eyes 0 D, and are thus held in position and prevented from separating.
In uniting the links the eye B of a link, as 19, engages with the parallel eyes 0 D of the link 0,.
This fencing is strong, durable, and easily and cheaply made.
I claim 1. A wire-fencing link composed of alength of wiredoubled to form a loop or eye B at-one extremity of the link and having its extremities bent over to form eyes 0 D, the extremities E F of said wire being wrapped around both parts thereof and bent outwardly to form barbs.
2. Awire fencing composed of a series of enchained links, each link being composed of a length of wire doubled to form a loop or eye B at one extremity of the link and having its ends bent over to form eyes 0 D, the extremities E F of said Wire being wrapped around both parallel parts thereof and bent outwardly to form barbs, the eye B of one link engaging with the eyes C D of the next adjacent link.
