Cl. 211-88 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A display literature dispenser for disseminating advertising literature, recipes and the like in supermarkets or other places which attract large numbers of persons is of folded unitary construction. The dispenser includes front, bottom, rear and side panels, and a pair of closure flaps extending laterally from the side panels. Scored folding lines separate the panels and closure flaps. Also included are means for securing the dispenser in the assembled condition and for mounting the dispenser on a wall, counter or the like for display purposes.
Background of the invention This invention relates to a display literature dispenser and more particularly to a dispenser of folded unitary construction which may be easily assembled by folding along scored lines and mounted on a wall or counter to permit easy access by passers by, store patrons, and the like to display literature contained therein.
The unparalleled growth and expansion in recent years of supermarket chain stores has brought with it the need and desired for self-service buying on the part of the consumer. The consumer has readily adapted to selfservice marketing and is attracted to display advertising and literature. Consequently, it becomes necessary to disseminate advertising literature to passers-by, store patrons and the like in a manner which is cheap and attractive and preferably without the need for clerical help and yet is constructed so that it can be easily assembled and attached to the wall or counter.
Although many advertising display racks and holders are known today, none, as far as I am aware, is entirely satisfactory for the above purposes when carried into practice commercially.
Brief summary A display literature dispenser of folded unitary construction comprising a front panel, a pair of side panels extending laterally from and on opposite sides of the front panel, a pair of closure straps extending from the extreme lateral ends of the side panels, the closure straps being provided with cutout sections to facilitate assembly of the dispenser, a bottom panel extending downwardly from the front panel, a rear panel extending downwardly from the bottom panel, projecting members positioned on said rear panel with pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the ends thereof, means for attaching the closure flaps to the rear panel to secure the dispenser in an assembled condition, means for mounting the dispenser on a wall or other surface for display purposes, a plurality of scored folding lines separating the panels and closure flaps so that the dispenser can be readily assembled by first folding the bottom, rear and side panels into position, folding the closure flaps over the rear panel, securing the dispenser in the assembled condition, and then mounting for display with the projecting members extending through the flap cutouts forming a fit therewith causing the dispenser to retains its assembly.

Description of the invention Generally speaking, and in accordance with my invention, a display literature dispenser of folded unitary construction comprises a front panel, a pair of side panels extending laterally from, and on opposite sides of, the front panel. A pair of closure flaps extend from the extreme lateral ends of the side panels. A bottom panel extends downwardly from the front panel and has a rear panel extending downwardly from it. Means are provided for attaching the closure flaps to the rear panel to secure the dispenser in the fully assembled condition and for mounting the dispenser on a wall or other surface for display purposes. For example, the closure flaps can be provided with cutout sections while the rear panel can be provided with a pair of projecting members for insertion through the cut outs to form a friction fit therewith to maintain the dispenser in the assembled condition. The projecting members can be supplied with adhesive to secure the dispenser on a wall or counter.
A plurality of scored folding lines separates the panels and closure flaps from one another so that the dispenser can be readily assembled by first folding the bottom, rear and side panels into position and then folding the closure flaps over the rear panel. In this way, the means for securing the dispenser to a wall or counter will extend through the flap cutouts and form a friction fit therewith which causes the dispenser to retain its assembly and permits mounting of the dispenser on a flat wall or counter for display purposes.
Advantageously, the dispenser can be formed of a flexible plastic which is susceptible to scoring to permit folding and easy assembly of the dispenser. By the use of flexible plastics, paper, or cardboard, the dispenser can be made more attractive by tastefully coloring the dispenser in such a way as to attract the eye of the casual observer and thus improve his reception to the display literature contained within the dispenser.
Preferred embodiment Referring now to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a front panel 10 provided with cutaway section 17 to permit improved visibility of the literature contained in the dispenser. Side panels 11 and 14 extend laterally from, and on opposite sides of, front panel 10. A pair of closure flaps 12 and 15 extend from the extreme lateral ends of side panels 11 and 14 respectively. The closure flaps are provided with cutout sections 13 and 16 to facilitate assembly of the dispenser. A bottom panel 23 extends downwardly from the front section. A rear panel 25 extends downwardly from the bottom panel. A pair of projecting members 26 and 27 provided with a pressure sensitive adhesive are positioned on rear panel 25 for securing the dispenser to a wall, counter, or other surface for display purposes. A plurality of folding lines 18, 19, 20', 21, 22 and 24 separate the panel and closure flaps so that the dispenser can be readily assembled by first, for example, folding along bottom line 22 and then along line 24 to position the bottom and rear panels and then folding along lines 19, 20 and 18 and 21 as shown in perspective in FIG. 2 as a view of partially assembled dispenser.
FIG. 3 shows the dispenser fully assembled with the pair of projecting members 26 and 27 extending through cutouts 16 and 13 of closure flaps 15 and 12 respectively. A friction fit prevents the closure flaps from returning to a disassembled position and thus permits the dispenser to sit upright in a fully assembled manner. When the dispenser is filled with literature, cut out edges 31 and 32 are forced downwardly under the weight of the literature causing a more secure friction fit. Also shown in FIG. 3 are shields 28 and 29 on projecting members 26 and 27 respectively in a partially removed condition so that, when fully removed and exposing members 26 and 27, the dispenser may be mounted on a wall, counter, display rack or the like. Display literature, such, for example, as recipes can then be included in the dispenser and will be readily available to store patrons or other interested persons for easy access.
FIG. 4 shows a horizontal sectional view taken along the line 4-4 of FIG. 3 in which the dispenser is secured to wall 30 and is in a position to disseminate display literature. Wall 30 prevents flaps 12 and 15 from disengaging from projecting members 26 and 27 and maintains the mounted dispenser in the assembled position.
FIG. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 5-5 of FIG. 3 showing the dispenser in the mounted position on wall 30.
Although the present invention has been described in conjunction with preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that modifications and variations may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as those skilled in the art will readily understand. Such modifications and variations are considered to be within the purview and scope of the invention and appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A display literature dispenser of folded unitary construction which comprises:
(a) a front panel;
(b) a pair of side panels extending laterally from,
and on opposite sides of, the front panel;
(0) a pair of closure flaps extending from the extreme lateral ends of the side panels, said closure flaps being provided with cutout sections to facilitate assembly of the dispenser;
(d) a bottom panel extending downwardly from the front panel;
(e) a rear panel extending downwardly from the bottom panel, projecting members positioned on said rear panel with pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the ends thereof; and
(f) a plurality of scored folding lines separating the panels and closure flaps so that the dispenser can be readily assembled by first folding the bottom, rear and side panels into position, folding the closure flaps over the rear panel with the projecting members extending through the flap cutout sections forming a fit therewith causing the dispenser to retain its assembly.
2. A display literature dispenser in accordance with claim 1 including shields covering the adhesive-containing ends of the projecting members.
3. A display literature dispenser in accordance with claim 2 including a cutaway section in the front panel to permit improved visibility of the literature contained in the dispenser.
4. A display literature dispenser in accordance with claim 3 formed of flexible plastic.
