2 Claims. (Cl. 211- 88) This invention relates to a holder for pencils, paper clips and the like.

Broadly, it is an object of this invention to provide a rigid holder for pencils, paper clips and the like which can be attached to a fiat surface and which can be produced inexpensively.

More specifically, it is an object of this invention to provide a holder for pencils, paper clips and the like which can be formed of two pieces which can be rapidly joined together to form the device.

For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of this invention, referenceis had to the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a front view of the device showing the front housing portion partially broken away;

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken along line 2-2 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a top view thereof;

Fig. 4 is a rear view thereof; and

Fig. 5 is a modified side partial view of the lower portion showing parts broken away to show the interior construction.

Referring to the drawing, numeral represents a holder for pencils, paper clips and the like made of plastic material, preferably by injection molding and comprises two molded pieces. The first piece comprises a flat back member 11, a multiplicity of narrow vertical tapered partitions 12 projecting forward at right angles to the back member 11 and a back plate 13 which functions as the back for the well or lower compartment or receptacle for paper clips or small office desk items generally used in ofiice work. The back plate 13 projects slightly beyond the front edges of the partitions 12 approximately the thickness of the plastic material for the reason as'will be hereinafter described and is slightly less in size than opening 21. The back member 11 has a slight ridge or flange 16 projecting outwardly from the back along the outer edge to receive and position the front member.

The front member comprises a housing 14 to enclose the partitions 12 and a projecting well or receptacle 15 for use for paper clips or other small ofiice items or accessories. The front of the housing 14 extends from the top of the partitions 12 to the top of the back plate 13 leaving .an opening at the rear of the well or receptacle 15. The outer edges of the front member which is of U-shaped formation are adapted to be seated within the ridge 16 while the lowermost edge of the front 17 is seated upon the upper edge 18 of the back plate 13. Thus, back plate 13 acts as the rear wall of the well or receptacle 15.

The flat back member 11 has a lower opening 21 behind the back plate 13 which is slightly larger than the size of the back plate 13 so that in molding the first piece comprising the fiat back member 11, vertical partitions 12 and the back plate 13, the piece may be drawn through the mold without injury to the back plate 13. The upper portion of the flat back member 11 has a hole 19 which may be used to hang upon a nail or peg to hold the de- .2 vice in position UPQB a vertical surface. However, a sponge rubber piece 20 which has adhesive on both sides 9. .1 be attah$d to the back. 11 and attached to a flat surface or wall by the adhesive, which is preferably nondrying, which also appears on the outside of the sponge rubber piece 20.

In assembling the two pieces from which the item is formed, it is but necessary to moisten the outer edges of the front member with a plastic dissolving chemical and place the front member within the ridge 16 .and with the lower edge of front 17 upon the upper edge 18 of plate 13 and a slight pressure will cause both the front and rear members to adhere to one another. By attaching or joining both the front and back members, a series of vertical compartments 22 are formed and a lower well or receptacle 15 is also formed.

While I have shown this device with three vertical partitions 12 forming four compartments 22, it is obvious that a larger or lesser number of partitions may be used to form a greater or lesser number of .vertical compartments. It is also evident that metal or other material may be substituted in place of the plastic used.

In Fig. 5, I have shown a modification of the holder described in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, this modified holder i being identical to the holder previously described except that the front 21 extends from the top of the partitions 12'right to the bottom of the receptacle 15 so that the lower portion of the front acts as the back wall of the receptacle 15 in place of the back plate 13 heretofore briefly described. In this modification there is no back plate at the lower portion of the front of the partitions 12, such partitions running or extending directly to the bottom 23 of the receptacle. In all other instances the modification shown in'Fig. 5 is like the holder'heretofore described.

It is also evident that the arrangements of parts in Fig. 5 may be varied somewhat without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.

Because the front member 17 has a fiat plain surface different forms of advertising may be used to cover such surface.

Of course, an adhesive may be applied directly to the rear of the flat back member 11 so that it may be attached to wall surface and the sponge rubber piece 20 eliminated entirely, if desired.

I claim:

1. A plastic holder for pencils and small items consisting of two plastic parts, the first part comprising a flat back member, a multiplicity of vertical tapered partitions extending at right angles from the face of said back member, a small projecting ridge extending around the outer edge of said back member except the upper part thereof, a back plate at the lower front end of said partitions, said back plate substantially parallel to said fiat back member and projecting slightly beyond the front edges of said partitions, the second part comprising a U-shaped front member comprising a housing enclosing said partitions and a projecting lower receptacle for small oflice items, the spaces between said housing, said back member and said partitions forming compartments for pencils and the like, the front of said front member extending from the top of said vertical partitions to the top of said back plate with the lower edge thereof resting upon the top of said back plate, said back plate forming the back of said lower receptacle, said front member attached to said back member between said small projecting ridge of said back member and means for attaching said holder to a surface.
