LOOP OR BAND FOR STRAPS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,081, dated September 28, 1836.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, THOMAS LANGDON R1v ERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at .WIontclair, in the county of Essex and State of New J crsey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Loops or Bands, of which the following is a specification, referencebeinghad to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to improvements in loops or bands,- and it consists of a single mctallic loop provided on its inner faces with cor rugations or teeth to take into the folded or meeting ends of a strap, to obviate stitching said parts together; and my said invention further consists of a supplemental band or loop cast or formed integral with the main loop, to confine the free end of a strap that connected to a buckle, which buckleis secured to a strap that has its end folded over the cross-bar of the buckle and secured together by my im proved loop, all as hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved band or loop. Fig. 2is a like view of the clamping-loop, having the auxiliary band for confining the free end of a strap. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the loops shown in Figs. 1 and 2 applied to straps and buckles, and Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section through the loop shown in Fig. 2.

The end walls of the loop are curved slightly, as shown, and provided with smooth inner and outer faces, and the inner faces of the side walls are provided with teeth or corrugations, as at a, to bind on the strap ends that are inserted therein, to rigidly secure the ends of a strap or other flexible connection without stitching the same, as has heretofore been generally done.

This loop is forced over the strap and its folded end to a position near the buckle, ring, &c., and the teeth or corrugationsthereof bind on the outer faces of the strapto clamp them together. It will be seen that I thus provide a devicewhich can be quicklyand expeditiouslyadjusted over a strap to confine the foldcdeud thereof in place without stitching or otherwise perinanently securing the same, and that the loop is securely held in place against disengagement by frictional contact between its opposing faces and the strap, while at the same time the loop does not injure the strap in any way and can be conveniently removed to permit the buckle, &c., to be taken out and replaced.

The loop A is cast over a core of proper form to provide the interior teeth or corrugations, andsaid main clamping-loop is provided with an auxiliary loop, 0, that is also cast therewith. This auxiliary loop consists, essentially, of side or end bars, 0, that project outwardly and upwardly from the mainclamp ing-loop, and a cross-bar, 0, connecting the end bars, so that an opening or spaccis left or provided for-the passage of a strap, I), thatis connected or secured with a buckle, (I, secured in the folded ends b of the strap B.

My improved loop is simple, strong, and durable, is thoroughly effective for the purmanufacture, and can be cast very rapidly.

I am aware that heretofore harness buckles have been provided with a loop that secures the folded ends of a strap together without stitching or other securing means; but my inventi on is wholly distinct and separate from the buckle, which is secured inthe folded ends of a strap to which my improved loop is applied, the loop being readily removable independently of the device secured in the folded end of the strap, to adapt buckles of any con struction, rings, or loops, to be securedin the said strap, and interchangeable one with an other. My improved loop can also be used to detaehably connect the meeting ends of two straps or other suitable or flexible devices.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new 1s 1. As an improved article of manulacture,

, having its longitudinal walls arranged parallel with each other and provided on their inner opposing faces with a series of longitudinal corrugations or teeth, which bite upon the outer faces of the straps inclosed within the same, substantially as described.

2. As an article of manufacture, a loop cast in one piece and having interior teeth or corrugations, and an extended auxiliary loop, substantially as described.

3. The combination of a strap, B, folded upon itself, a buckle secured in the folded end of the strap, a main loop fitted over the strap and its folded end, and provided with interior teeth or corrugations that bind on the straps, and an integral auxiliary loop extended out of the plane of the opening inthe niainloop, and a strap, D, connected to the buckle and hav- 2o ing its free end confined in the extended anxiliary loop, substantially as described.
