UMBRELLA TIE. 3 -No.. 333,223. 3 Patented Mar. 16, 1833.
, W/T/VESSES: v 1% J0. 3335 I I WM B) I I v N. PETERS, Pholn-Lilhographnr. Wauhinginn. D4 (1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMUND L. GLENN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO YVRIGHT BROTHERS & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
UMBRELLA-TIE.
FSPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,223, dated March 16, 1886.
Application filed July 11, 1885. Serial No. 171,267.
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDMUND L. GLENN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Umbrella-Ties, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a face view of an u1nbrella-tie, embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a section thereof in line a; 00, Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 represents a view of a detached portion thereof, also on an enlarged scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a slide for an umbrella-tie, formed of wire, which is light, inexpensive, and durable.
Referring to'the drawings, A represents an umbrella-tie, formed of any suitable fabric or material, and 13 represents the slide thereof, the same having side loops, 0, and a central part, D, connecting the same, constructed of a continuous piece of wire.
One end of the tie is attached by sewing or other means to the inner walls of the loop, and the other end passed through the loops 0, whereby by drawing the tie through the slide or moving the slide along the tie the length of the tie may be increased or decreased, as desired.
(N0 model.)
The slide is formed of a piece of wire, as has been stated, the same being properly bent to form the loops 0 and intermediate piece, D, connecting the same. .The inner walls of the loop constitute a cross-bar, to which one end of the tie is attached, and the loops receive the other end of the tie. When the length of the tie is adjusted, the portions of the same in the loops bind against the walls thereof, whereby the tie retains its adjustment.
As the slide is made of wire, it is light, inexpensive, and strong and durable for the purpose intended, and, being devoid of sharp edges, it does not cut the tie.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A slide for an umbrella-tie, consisting of two loops, 0, and a central connecting-piece, D, formed of a continuous piece of wire, substantially as described.
2. A slide for an umbrella-tie, consisting of a single piece of wire having the end portions thereof forming loops 0, and the central portion forming the connection D of said loops,
substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
EDMUND L. GLENN.
